Apollo 10 ends moon orbit with Snoopy near miss

Apollo 10 astronauts Thomas Stafford Eugene Cernan and John Young completed two lunar flybys and a 9.5 mile close approach in Snoopy to test lunar landing readiness. They will depart lunar orbit Saturday with plans to reenter Earth’s atmosphere Monday after more navigation practice for Apollo 11.

West Chester man held on attempted murder charge

Cloyce Raymond Dunbar is jailed in Washington County on an attempted murder charge after allegedly firing a shotgun at his wife Mabel Lenore Thursday morning. She sustained a bruised neck, not from the blast. Dunbar is held on 20000 dollar bond as investigators continue the case.

Iowa Senate rush to tax bill ends in conference approval

In Des Moines the Iowa Senate voted 36 to 21 to accept a conference committee report on a major property tax reform bill as last minute moves stirred talk of adjournment. The measure, debated heavily in both chambers, would set separate assessment standards for farm and urban property and requires reassessment in 1971.

Plane stolen by U S Air Force mechanic at Mildenhall

A 23 year old U S Air Force mechanic Sgt Paul A Meyer stole a C130 Hercules from Mildenhall RAF base early today and vanished. Authorities fear the 97 foot craft is down likely over water after a flight of about nine hours fuel. Meyer from Langley AFB was on a 90 day rotation with his unit and is married with three children.

The U S House Appropriations Committee challenged claims that millions of Americans go hungry while acknowledging malnutrition exists and urging free or subsidized food. National Guards storm NC dorm after sniper fire

National Guard troops entered a North Carolina A&T dormitory early today after sniper fire wounded seven, with at least one guardsman shot. A helicopter and a light plane sprayed tear gas on the building as violence unfolded.
