Sioux City police recovered nearly 2000 dollars from a boarding house room used by two men with long police records who had recently occupied the room. Mrs Herbert Colton found the money and turned it to authorities.
Alicia-John K. Manley Jr. 49 pleaded guilty to second degree murder for the fatal shooting of his father on May 6. He will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Des Moines attorney general Edward L. O Connor appoints Henry J. Roelofs as assistant to handle routine legal work for the town liquor control commission. Roelofs, a Republican, previously led the liquor commission permit department and fills the vacancy from the dismissal of Sen Leslie K B Francis, former liquor commission legal adviser.
Joe Thomas a 52 year old oil trucker was found dead as flames enveloped his vehicle three miles west of Creston on Highway 34. A motorist reported seeing fire erupt in the cab as Thomas drove toward Creston.
Des Moines State Liquor Commissioner ordered an investigation into reports that a liquor firm representative had treated University of Iowa students to samples. Manley said the commission did not approve such methods.

Judge D W Hawilton issued an order to establish and confirm judgment in the Corbin Lukay case after the sale of land for 11025.44. The total award with interest and costs against Wells estate amounts to 29788.65, leaving an 8763.21 deficiency. The cross petitioner is entitled to half the judgment and the Washington National Bank trustees must turn over assets to satisfy the judgment as chosen by the National Bank of Washington.

Poppy poster awards go to Jean Atchison daughter of Mr and Mrs A E Atchison and Henry Godwin son of Mr and Mrs Harold Godwin announced today by the Legion Auxiliary poppy sale chairman Mrs P L Etter. Jean's was the best of those entered by girls and Henry's the best of those entered by boys. The contest was open to pupils of fourth and fifth grades of the ward a schoola and St James school. The winners will receive fifty cents apiece.
An explosion from a basement water heater in the American bank building damaged three shops in Muscatine's business district. About 100 workers were present. Omer Jones escaped serious injury while barber Karl Orria and others suffered non serious cuts and bruises.
County Attorney George F. Morrison filed a information charging HW B Rugg of Wellman with keeping a gambling house after a slot machine was seized at the Rugg restaurant. Sheriff Harold M Putnam reported the case and a hearing before Judge B W Hamilton was expected early next week.

Miller of the Washington Chamber of Commerce Supervisor Boyd Foster Robert Patterson and Jack Roth of Wayland return from a state highway commission conference hopeful the Wayland Washington road will be funded in federal aid highway construction. Board members await Washington guidance on fund allotment rules before committing to projects, though they will fully consider the Wayland road when funds are available. Miller has a statement from Congressman E C Eicher noting 10 594 343 dollars will be allotted to Iowa for road construction and grade crossing elimination from the four billion dollars recently appropriated. The Wayland and Washington group hope funds can be allocated to their road project.
The Senate sustained President Roosevelt's veto of the Patman bonus bill by a 54 to 40 vote. The bill failed to reach the two thirds required, being nine votes short. Earlier passage was 55 to 33, with twelve Republicans and 28 Democrats voting to sustain the veto.
Senator Huey P. Long said the Senate would sustain President Roosevelt's veto of the Patman bill. Administration leaders counted three to six votes to uphold the veto as debate continued. Potential shifts and new plans were discussed by both sides ahead of the final roll call.
