John N Garfield, grandson of assassinated president James A Garfield, died at his Lake County home from a self inflicted gunshot. He was 39 or 49, a World War I veteran and former commander of the Crusaders anti prohibition group. He had been morose after an operation and left a neighbor's dinner to walk home where he died.
