The Washington YMCA World Service Carnival runs 6 to 9 p m in the Y building. YMCA and YWCA groups organize booths and tickets are sold at the Y. Proceeds support the local World Service fund and families are urged to attend as a group for entertainment suitable for all ages.
The Iowa Senate rejected for a second time an indirect plan to aid nonpublic schools, defeating Sen. Walsh's $8.6 million proposal 23 to 26. The chamber works toward a $113 million tax and school aid package amid conference committee talks with the House.
Rev. Brian Walshe of Langley England disclosed an anonymous donor gave five pounds with a note to "make it work." He issued ten 10 pence money orders to 50 horse racing bookies, directing them to forward any winnings to fund a 10,000 pound extension for the Parish Youth Center.
United Press International reports cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms increasing tonight and Sunday. Lows tonight 55 to 60, highs Sunday near 70, with rain chances at 90 percent tonight and 60 percent Sunday.

A single person under 1700 dollars income owes no tax. over 65 up to 2350 dollars is tax free. Employers can obtain quantities of Form W-4E from the IRS district office.
