Survived by two sons James D. of Santa Ana California and Richard C. of the U.S. Air Force, daughter Mabel Kendall of West Covina California, brothers William Ross of Keota and Paul C. Ross of Sturgis South Dakota, and five grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband and two sisters.

President Johnson addressed about 30,000 at the University of Michigan in Arbor urging youth to help build a great society. He pledged total commitment to ending poverty and racial injustice, promising White House conferences to tackle education, urban renewal, and natural resources as the crowd, weather warm and sunny, listened from the 101000 seat stadium.
