Ainsworth May 22 The Sorosis club of Ainsworth bought a Colorado blue spruce for the school grounds to honor the Gold Star boys on the local honor roll. D Stephens supervised the planting and a dedicatory service was held May 16 in the school building. Fight Invasion of Mormon Crickets In Oregon Farmlands
In Pendleton Oregon on May 22, residents, aided by five army loaned carriers, spread poison bait over an eight mile front to halt a vast swarm of Mormon crickets spreading across Sherman, Umatilla and Morrow counties near the Columbia River. Passenger rail fare hikes approved across northeast region

Five persons died and two were injured when a four motor C-97 transport version of the B-29 Superfortress crashed on a farm near Wright Field near Dayton Ohio. The Chamber of Commerce voted to set Washington retail shops closing at five each weekday except Saturdays during June July and August. Drug stores food stores and barber shops will keep summer hours. Memorial Day closures are set for May 30 with flags to be displayed by nine o clock. The next meeting will be at the country club on July 15 and a July 16 dinner was moved to July 15.
