Last evening a burlesque commence ment was given at Crawfordsville attended by Academy people who drove down. For Rent: The most desirable upstairs flat in the city well ventilated rooms for office and living. Apply at JOURNAL office.
Burglars entered the residence of John Maxwell east of the city, stealing items before fleeing. Police investigated the burglary, urging homeowners to secure properties and report suspicious activity.
Two masked men entered John Maxwell’s country home around three in the afternoon and stole two trousers a few razors and damaged a leather trunk while searching for gold. A revolver was left undisturbed. Neighbors saw two men near the house but did not report them until after the burglary. Sheriff Teeter was not notified until this morning.
The program lists officers for Decoration Day including Marshal Major J D Glasgow and Governor Francis M Drake as orator. Morning and afternoon march orders specify processions forming on the east side of the square, escorting the governor to Llorel Allen and assembling at the southeast corner for a 1 p.m. parade.
A group of youths visited Coppock for a morning picnic and are enjoying a pleasant day. Members include Laura Reed Carl Bush Vida Bell Johnson Roy Bush Crete Mckee Pred Duel Flora Hoppengardner Charles Hise Ray McElhinny Ralph Lytle Blanche Fulton Merton Teeter and Olive Duel.
Last evening the city council met to discuss the new brick sewer. No action of importance was taken.
Baptist church hosts morning and evening services with sermons by the pastor on Robbers of God and The True and the False. Presbyterian church also offers morning and evening sermons on Jacobs Dream and The Grace of Giving along with Our Friend in Trouble. Second U P church holds morning and evening services on The Grace of Giving and Our Friend in Trouble. Mrs J Percival Pollard Jr departs for Chicago with her mother, while Mr Pollard remains with his ailing father. Two local crayon portrait firms operate separately in the state.

County auditor ALYY reports payment for three more wolf scalps, four month old pups, with the mother seen, hunters J. W. and A. Wylie credited for the capture on Ab Anderson farm west of town. A Rock Island excursion on June 1 offers $1 round trip via Rock Island U P church with sights like the arsenal and Hennepin canal. Train departs Washington 7 30 a m and returns 6 40 p m. Groifs Bros. tour flour sold by Baird Patton. Clark Trafton’s bread on sale.
Prices for farm products show little change across markets. The Washington Battery adds a new twelve pounder gun, sourced from Des Moines, improving field readiness. Captain McCutcheon may lead the battery in future action, though keeping peacetime status is hoped.
About fifteen hundred people gathered early evening as a balloon rose and sailed about 500 feet before landing near the show ground. The Woods and Ewer circus drew a crowded tent and left spectators satisfied. Showman Cleveland left due to ill health to return to West Point Iowa. Mr and Mrs Joe Richer of Packwood Jr stay with Henry Richer on East Main Street with Mrs Richer of Noble expected to return tonight.
