The body of a nine pound baby was found in a tin can on the east edge of the city dump. Officers declined to reveal the note's contents and said they are seeking a man for questioning in the case.
Allamakee county supervisors vow to stamp out the rattlesnake racket. They now require that at least four inches of tail be attached to the rattlesnake before presenting for bounty in WAUKON.
Cedar Falls J H Peet superintendent of schools spoke as guest preacher at the First Methodist church and urged the philosophy of serving humanity for its own sake rather than for personal gain.
State industrial commissioner A B Funk awarded Mrs. Oran Pape a workman’s compensation pension of 15 dollars weekly for 300 weeks plus 150 dollars for burial and 300 dollars for medical costs. She is the widow of patrolman Oran Pape killed by Roscoe Barton 23 of Davenport, a paroled criminal.
Dominic Martin 70 of Imogene returned home from Excelsior Springs Missouri with his son John as police hunted two unfamiliar con artists who tricked the elderly farmer out of 1000 dollars. Martin said the strangers duped him at Excelsior Springs and drove him to Imogene to withdraw the money from his bank.
Iowa City prepares Tent City as summer academic headquarters for University of Iowa graduate students. The camp will house 75 families while the city gears up for the first summer session beginning June 8. A mayor and city council race follows population arrival.
John Gibbs residing at Mrs Mae Bloompot's home tried to seal a leaky roof by heating tar on the stove. The tar boiled over and ignited on the stove. Firemen responded quickly, saving the residence from serious damage.

Mrs C A Speer will serve as Centennial Historian assisting groups with authoritative county history.
Edgewood Iowa May 20 The Bixby cave now has a steady ice supply after a harsh winter. New caretaker Franklin J Funk declared visitors cannot take ice for ice cream at picnics. The cave temperature sits near 28 degrees while a snow drift at the mouth remains.

The West Chester W R C with World War soldiers and Sons of Veterans hold a memorial service at the Methodist church in West Chester Sunday after noon May 24 at 2 o clock. Washington county is slated to receive at least 168100 in veterans bonus bonds and treasury checks during the last two weeks of June. The estimate, based on Patman figures, places the county’s share at half of its total adjusted service certificate amount, part of about 20509800 statewide expected payments by June 30.

Seven men fell into the harbor after a seaplane crashed near Rockland Maine during takeoff. Pilot Graham and five passengers were rescued by coast guard boats and a fishing vessel, with two injured. Wreckage was towed ashore as crews searched for missing passenger William Montgomery.
In Helmond Iowa on May 20 C A Potter Western station agent was found dead with a shotgun wound. Authorities ruled the death accidental noting Potter had been shooting crows when the incident occurred.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Cruise of Atlantic Iowa were held this afternoon at the Congregational church in Fairville Iowa. Burial followed at Barlville. She died at the Washington home of her son Dr M J Cruise while on a voyage to Iowa City for an operation.
Des Moines May 20 Iowa Daily Press Bureau Fred White chief engineer of the highway commission announces maintenance crews will remove political advertising placards posted within state highway boundary lines. Letters were sent to Democratic state central committee chairman BE Birmingham and Republican chairman Carl Cook explaining the action to spare candidates and crews the expense of posting and removing signs. A law section prohibits posting billboards inside primary right of way. supervisors may also remove signs along primary roads.
Estherville Iowa May 20 prediction that WPA will wind up its affairs in Emmet County amid picketing threats from union labor leaders. Only 25 men and seven women remain in WPA projects and can be transferredTo relief administration work. Projects were halted by M C Hall Sioux City district PWA supervisor who said union threats blocked a proposed graveling project despite insufficient WPA laborers to handle the work.

Washington May 26 Thousands of dollars from Dr F E Townsends pension fund are being used in a campaign to defeat Senator Thomas I Gore of Oklahoma. The congressional committee probing the old pension movement disclosed this as it examined its political ramifications. Townsend, 70, admitted the fund has accumulated at least a million dollars in nickels and dimes.
William McConaughy, a former local boy and new assistant manager of the J C Penney store, says he is glad to be back in Washington. He notes his appreciation for his hometown grew during his years away.
