Mystery Crate of Berries Sparks Local Romance Tale

In Centralia Illinois a box of strawberries carries a satirical romance plot as a Washington Iowa man and a Centralia woman figure in a tale of mystery. A box notes five thousand dollars and a letter to a mystery buyer raising rumor of a Sunday reply and a grocery purchase by Brindley and Eichlberger.

Marriage Unites Dr Charles McLaughlin and Miss Bessie Hamilton

At 231 East Main street today twelve o'clock the marriage of Dr Charles William McLaughlin of Crawfordsville and Miss Bessie Belle Hamilton of this city was solemnized with a small ceremony in the back parlor. Rev A L Davidson officiated and seventy five guests attended a wedding dinner followed by decorated tables and elegant flowers. The couple will reside in Crawfordsville where McLaughlin has a medical practice. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs Noah Eicher Mt Union Dr and Mrs Hay Keota Miss Emma Porter Keota Miss Laura Fleming Lexington Mr and Mrs D H McLaughlin West Chester and Howard Hamilton Monmouth.

Alley Glee Club Meets at Mrs Andersons Rooms

The Alley Glee Club met at Mrs Lizzie Andersons west side venue for songs and charades. A pleasant meeting was reported by members with a cheerful evening noted. Decoration Day plans include placing flowers around park basin and netting to keep children from touching it.

Weather and local city warrants update from Washington Iowa

Fair tonight and Friday in Iowa with cooler temperatures. A circus day note warns residents to lock doors and windows. Reports include the arrival of Hon. Wim. City of Washington approves sidewalk on North Iowa Street

The Washington Iowa city council resolves to establish a four foot wide sidewalk on the east side of North Iowa street from the current walk on the west side of lot 2 to the Keeley Elevator crossing. Property owners must build within thirty days or the street commissioner will build it and assess costs to adjacent properties. The resolution is signed by Mayor GKKR O. Washington Iowa city council approves terrace rules for streets

The Washington Iowa city council adopts a resolution granting property owners the right to terrace and ornament exterior spaces along streets. Terraces must stay within specified widths on 60 and 66 foot streets and be level with adjacent walks. Owners may enforce protection of terraces and ornaments under city ordinances with misdemeanor penalties. The measure was adopted May 17, 1807, signed by Mayor EO. & ROSS and City Clerk J J Kellogg.
