Open area art show at Washington Public Library
The Washington Public Library hosts its annual open area art show in the Helen Wilson gallery this week. Forty two works by area artists fill oils watercolor pen and ink crayon and mixed media, including a sensational hooked rug. Notable pieces include Raymond Coon oils Grace Kerr hooked rug for Bicentennial Sheilah Klapp child portrait Peter Koehler scenes and Connie Bauer toilet seat framed piece. Many other artists contribute varied pieces making this a highly regarded exhibit and worth multiple visits.

Council Bluffs voters rejected a 6.27 million dollar school bond Tuesday, with only 35.5 percent approval short of the 60 percent needed. The proposal would have funded two new junior high schools and repairs to an existing building.

Iowa Senate Approves Photo on Driver Licenses

HEW Wins Delay in Welfare Error Control Policy Change
HEW officials said Tuesday the department will continue its welfare error reduction program under new procedures after U.S. District Judge June L. Green blocked a planned cutoff of more than 123 million in federal matching funds for 45 states and Los Angeles County. The judge ruled the original target levels were arbitrary and not properly justified, while acknowledging the need to lower error rates.
