Washington school board sets meeting and agenda
The Board of Education of the Washington Community School District will meet at 7 30 p m Wednesday in the senior high school library. The tentative agenda includes music program discussions with staff and the closing of Prairie Flower School, plus interviewing two more applicants for Brighton principal. The Washington Park Board plans to asphalt Lincoln Elementary tennis courts and create a 24 by 40 foot bicycle parking area near the Municipal Swimming Pool, with Iowa Road Builders Co. handling the work for street resurfacing.

FFA Hosts Awards Night Highlights Future Leaders

Six Iowa teens die after car flips and explodes
Six teenagers were killed when their car slid off Iowa 103 north of Fort Madison, flipped over, and burst into flames. Five died at the scene, the sixth died later at Sacred Heart Hospital. The driver could not be determined.

Crack train leaves tracks in Alabama
The Southern Crescent passenger train derailed while through central Alabama. In the dining car waiter Julius Cox served lunch as Jill Roberts cuddled her poodle Jon Earl read a book and Olaf Gudmundsson enjoyed the view. The last four cars slipped from the tracks and tumbled down a 75 foot embankment dragging lead cars. Of 168 aboard 133 were injured and 11 admitted to Druid City Hospital. Only Mrs. R. M. Garner of Hattiesburg was in serious condition with a broken neck.
