Mrs. Anna Shannon was sentenced to 30 days in county jail and fined 300 by District Judge Harold D. Leans for illegal possession of gambling devices. The jail sentence was suspended and she was paroled. An information followed a North Liberty tavern raid by state agents on March 2, marking a third conviction for the offense.
Lt. Col. J. H. Peil of the U S engineers district office in Rock Island says Congress has authorized a new survey of the Red Rock dam project. The resurvey will place the dam in the definite project stage and assess flood protection for Des Moines, with focus on the southeast area where substantial industrial investment has occurred.
The national labor relations board directed Webster City Iowa based Creamery Co to cease unfair labor practices. The order bars interference or restraint of employees joining a labor organization following a complaint by the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America alleging discouragement of union affiliation and discrimination against union members.
Emmetsburg Edward McNally resigns as chairman of Palo Alto County selective service board after long service. He cites policy urging farm production and removal of men from farms as inconsistent. Mayor Harold Barringer to succeed him on the board.
Des Moines reports indicate just one prisoner from Fort Madison penitentiary joined the army this week. Plans to induct about a dozen men were cut to ten, with three rejected. Maj. F. F. Body said five of 19 men from the Anamosa reformatory last week were accepted, with Anamosa seen as a better source due to younger, less repeat offender status.

Fritz Kuhn former leader of the German American Bund is ordered deported to Germany as an undesirable alien. The departure time depends on arrangements with US military authorities in occupied Germany. He is to be sent with repatriates and possibly POWs, with actions by US Army authorities upon arrival.
