Captain Peter C. Hains U. S. A. received a prison sentence of eight to sixteen years for the killing of William E. Annis on the Bayside Yacht Club float last August. He showed little emotion in court and sank into a chair after the sentence.
In Kansas City on May 18 the defense called nine witnesses to seek a change of venue for James Sharp known as Adam God charged with the murder of a policeman last fall. Prosecutor Conkling pressed for fault lines in Sharp's sanity as witnesses debated his fanaticism.
In Oklahoma City deputy U S Marshal Bacon seized 5,000,000 feet of lumber six sawmills and related property from Pinehill and Walker-Hopkins Lumber and others. Action followed district court writs after J M Mueller of the Interior Department completed a timber reservation probe. Mueller report ready to be filed next week. The inquiry centered on alleged unlawful timber depreciation.
The British steamer Carn Marth ran on Auderville rocks near Cherbourg and sank on May 18. All passengers and crew were rescued.

The warrant charges making false entries Habeas corpus petitions were filed before Judge Henry Bank at Keokuk and will be argued next Saturday.
