15 Percent Out of Work in Iowa Summer Jobs Shortage
Des Moines reports that about 15 to 25 percent of Iowa youths aged 14 to 22 will be unable to find summer jobs. About 75,000 youths are seeking work, with an estimated 13,000 to 16,000 not finding employment. High adult unemployment and revised child labor laws drive the deficit, though 59,300 detasseling positions are expected in cornfields. A Rent-a-Kid program and 7,000 low income youths will gain work through youth programs.
