Firefighters were called to Cy Robinsons apartment at 20848 Marion Sunday evening where an oven fire caused minimal damage. A baked pizza inside the oven was finished and eaten with no apparent harm from the blaze.
Gov Robert D Ray in Cedar Rapids pledged to call in any needed force to calm Iowa City if trouble resumes. He noted that 200 Highway Patrol officers had been withdrawn after recent disorders, with a residual Eastern Iowa unit on standby and patrol chief authorized to redeploy at a moment’s notice. Campus rallies were banned by University of Iowa President Willard Boyd to cool tensions after several injuries in clashes with demonstrators.
The Signalmen's union launched a nationwide strike against railroads stranding about 600,000 commuters and prompting President Nixon to seek emergency legislation. Talks failed over wage demands, with unions resuming limited negotiations with no timetable for resumed service as AMTRAK shut down.
DES MOINES IOWA House endorses annual budgeting by requiring unused appropriations revert to the general fund. Three appropriation bills pass, including a Camp backed reversal plan, while Gov Ray opposes it citing loss of departmental flexibility and potential waste. Final vote 63 to 23.

Supreme Court today refused another appeal from James R. Hoffa, Teamsters President, serving two consecutive 13 year jail terms for mail fraud and jury tampering. The U S Board of Parole refused release from Lewisburg federal prison. no decision until June 1972.
The Iowa State Education Association sanctioned English Valleys Community School District and Ida Grove Community School District over unsatisfactory working conditions. Action directs notifying Midwest college placement offices and NEA to list both districts in reports. The move cites contract terminations and lack of evaluating policies.
Robert W. Greenleaf, 56, longtime president of Iowa Southern Utilities Co. in Centerville, died at home from cancer over the weekend. A Centerville native, he served on the University of Iowa Foundation Board of Trustees, the Iowa Wesleyan College Board of Trustees in Mount Pleasant, and the Centerville National Bank board.
