27 Killed as Virginia plane crashes near Richmond
A Vik ing Airlines private airliner crashed in dense woods about five miles south of Richmond early today killing 25 passengers and two crew. The Newark to Miami charter flight carried three women and three children. The crash created a vertical dive, with most bodies burned beyond recognition and scattered remains reachable only by tractor. The pilot Anderson reported motor trouble after takeoff from Richmond Municipal Airport at 12 07 a m amid bad weather and by then other airliners were told to bypass the area.
