Ramseyers Take 10 Prizes in Ames Show
The Ramseyer Hatcheries, Inc. had a large display at Iowa’s first baby chick show in Ames last week. More than fifty hatcheries attended with about 3000 chicks entered. Ramseyers won ten of twelve entries with two firsts three seconds three thirds and two fourths led by top marks in the 8. C. Leghorn class and a first in 8. C. Black Minorcas. The display includes Rhode Island Reds from a famous Iowa line and chicks hatched from a prolific hen laying 290 eggs in a year. Mr. Ramseyer, manager of the Washington hatchery, returned from Ames Saturday.

Burlington high school won the Little Six field meet with 51 points. Fairfield was second with 40, Muscatine third with 21. Bales won the discus at 100 feet. Bain and Davis tied for first in the pole vault at 10 feet 6 inches. Albee of Muscatine swept the sprints 100 220 and 440. Cornelius Walton Injured in Bridge Abatement Cave-in
Cornelius Walton a county road gang member was injured Saturday when earth caved in during trench work on a bridge abatement northeast of Brighton. Two other men escaped unharmed. Walton was struck in the back and expected to recover soon. Xray indicated no serious secondary injury. He was taken to his home yesterday.

George W. Nichols, noted as Iowa's heaviest man, died at his Ames home from apoplexy. He weighed nearly two hundred pounds. Nichols had married a Washington woman and was known to many local residents after an Ames carnival appearance in earlier years.
