Chou En-lai vows to send volunteers to North Vietnam
Premier Chou En-lai warned in Chicago that Communist China would mobilize volunteers to join the North Vietnamese war if Hanoi asks. In an interview conducted by Simon Malley in Peking, Chou said China would reconsider its policy if U.S. troops invade North Vietnam or if a sellout peace occurs. He also stated Americans would not approach Chinese borders and dismissed the Soviet Union as an enemy alongside the United States.

Lee Bogan 17, Davenport, is held in Scott County jail on a juvenile homicide charge after the death of 23 year old Jane Fountain. Fountain's body was found Sunday in an apartment owned by Bogan's father Mose Bogan, discovered by her husband Riley.

Riot at Playland as 500 youths clash in Frisco area

Chariton Man Killed by Wayward Auto
Charles Hickok, 68, was struck and killed while working in a garden about 90 feet from U S 34 seven miles west of Chariton Iowa. The auto driven by Lee Crosby, 86, Ottumwa, left the highway and struck him on private property. No charges were filed and the accident remained under investigation.

Pfc. Rick K. Peters, 19, of Columbus Junction was wounded May 8 in Quang Nam Vietnam. His left arm was hit by rifle fire causing broken bones and nerve injuries. He arrived at Great Lakes Naval Hospital for treatment after deployment in April 1967 following enlistment in August 1966. his mother Beverly Porter and other relatives visited over the weekend.

U S Marines with tanks repelled repeated Communist assaults along the rain soaked northern Vietnam border over two days. North of the border, U S jets shot down three more MIGs, raising weekend total to 10 while two U S planes were lost.
