The Davenport board of education authorized restoring two-thirds of the 1932 salary reductions for teachers and other employees in the Davenport public schools. The move returns a significant portion of wages, affecting educators and district workers.
Iowa City report states the entire faculty of the University of Iowa school of religion is reappointed for the coming year with representation from Protestants Catholics and Jews on the Board of Directors.

Mrs Marian A Clark age 98 widow of a War of 1812 veteran died peacefully in her sleep at her niece Evelyn Cochran’s home in Iowa City. She would have turned 99 on May 23. She was one of four surviving War of 1812 widows in the United States.
Waterloo city council defeats an ordinance permitting sale and use of firecrackers on July 4. Members uphold existing ban, keeping fireworks restricted and the holiday tense as officials enforce limits.
Davenport police searched Tuesday for a weld dental bridge valued at 200 dollars. John C. Shenk, chamber of commerce secretary, reported the missing plate after drawers were removed during a desk move at the chamber building.

DES MOINES the effort to condense Iowa laws from four volumes into a single code continues. The new compiled code is slated for release this fall with current laws remaining in the 1921 compilation and the 1933 and 1935 session acts.
A chase in the University of Iowa Zoology Building ended with the capture of a three foot California boa. The escaped snake slipped through a broken glass door left unrepaired due to its sluggish behavior. A search party found it high on a window ledge.

Washington May 15 Congress faces a possible deadlock as Speaker Joseph Burns predicted the House would reject the Senate extended NRA nine and a half months and push for a two year extension. The Senate had approved a shorter extension until April 1 1936, prompting House leaders to contest the move.

In Washington on May 15 Senator Hastings and House Republican leader Fish denounced Roosevelt's speech to about 4000 farmers as the campaign opens. The farmers adopted a resolution urging Congress to strengthen the AAA while praising the president’s farm program and vowing continued support.

May 15 Wellman reports the deaths of Mrs. Leander Thurman 67 and Mrs. May Noffsinger 76 within hours of each other. Mrs. Thurman died at home of pneumonia complications after falling ill Friday and will be buried at Fairview cemetery. Rev. M. L. Dewey will lead services. Mrs. Noffsinger died at her son Paul’s Wellman home after long residence in South English, burial planned at South English Baptists church with burial in Fairview? cemetery. she was born near South English November 4 1858 and survived by three children and seven grandchildren.
Troopers of Troop FY 113th Cavalry prepare for the annual inspection set for May 29 with Major Frank Nelson as inspecting officer. Weather this spring has hampered outdoor drills as Washington aims to defend its top regiment rating.
Democratic leaders released a photostat of a 1932 letter by Homer Stephens, former Republican state central committee chairman, urging a $15 campaign contribution equal to 1 percent of annual salary. Merle Edwards son of Mr and Mrs W J Edwards of Washington is in Alaska engaged in government work to open farming operations for farmers from northwestern states and a government project. Four engineers from the H. R. Green office in Cedar Rapids traveled to Washington to advance preliminary planning for Cedar Rapids sewer and street surfacing projects. The city plans about six miles of crushed rock surfacing on local streets using Bailey quarry rock, with relief labor aiding rock output. The county considers contracting a crusher at the quarry to process its rock pile into road material, aligning with the city. The sewer plan would connect the west part of town to the main system and eliminate two septic pools by linking to the disposal plant.
At Des Moines May 15 the Iowa supreme court heard briefings on a writ to oust Woodbury county attorney Mak Duckworth. H. M. Havner alleged attorney general Ed L. O Conner and assistant Walter Ma ley were involved in a Sioux City slot machine racket based on an affidavit from Verne Marshall claiming Duckworth admitted earning 300 dollars a month. Justice Albert and Justice Parsons heard the arguments and promised a swift decision.
W. M. Albright operates the radio shop after purchasing Roy Finch's interest. The store will retain all departments and continue the long-standing policy. The shop sits opposite the Post Office.
Iowa reports corn planting five days late and about one-fourth done. Federal Meteorologist Charles D Reed notes plowing advancing, but cool wet weather slowed planting especially in eastern counties. By Dallas and Greene counties the most progress is seen. Mississippi valley counties remain scarcely started.
Miss Bonnie Helen Pease and her Saturday class display 37 works across several mediums at the public library. The exhibit runs today for two more days from 2 to 9 P.M. with Miss Pease assisting evenings, featuring high school and junior college girls who have studied since September 22.
