A 13 month old girl, Crystal Sutton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Sutton of Plymouth, died at a local hospital from burns after pulling a kerosene lamp onto herself. She was alone in the home while her father milked at the barn and her mother was across the road on an errand.
Dickens high school will graduate sixteen students this spring and all sixteen were delivered by Dr. J H Bruce of Fort Dodge Iowa. The doctor can claim a record as the only obstetrician to bring into the world sixteen graduates from a single class.
Ben P. Larson forewarned of reopening the sheep feeding contract dispute at Fort Dodge. He as northern Iowa sheep feeders chair argued current agreements fail to yield fair returns. The remarks came during a special legislative hearing led by Lieut. Gov. N. G. Kraschel.
CORNING Iowa Mrs Dan Turner wife of the former Iowa governor underwent a minor operation in an Omaha hospital Monday. The condition was reported satisfactory by physicians.
Cedar Rapids report states Kenwood Savings bank will reimburse depositors 100 percent after final ten percent payment authorized by Judge H C Ring. Five previous payments have been made. O F Fryer is examiner in charge.
In Davenport the quick actions of local Boy Scouts saved 13 year old Robert Lund after his arm was slashed by a plate glass door pane. An artery was severed and the scouts provided timely aid until medical help arrived.
Waterloo reports an upcoming canned beer launch with a new gadget allowing drinking directly from the can or pouring into a glass. The device features a triangular hole and promises convenient serving.
Paul Slater six year old son of Dr. R A Slater of Carthage is in serious condition at Graham hospital after his father backed a car from the garage and ran over him. The wheels passed over the boy s head.
Davenport police report a very slick theft where a meticulous thief jacked up a car owned by W F McClanahan then removed the rear tires and left the vehicle resting on blocks before fleeing. The crime described as a painstaking and careful operation highlights the offender’s methodical approach.
DES MOINES John Merriam a guard at the state historical building took the day from work. A Civil War veteran he was celebrating his ninetieth birthday.
A double funeral service was conducted yesterday at the Baptist church for Mrs Mary Gamble 88 and her granddaughter June Gamble who died on consecutive days at the home of John Gamble on East Van Buren Street. Rev A A Vinz led the services followed by burial in Elm Grove Cemetery with pallbearers named for both victims.
Max Duckworth travels from Sioux City to Des Moines to appeal his suspension as Woodbury County attorney. The Iowa Supreme Court will hear his challenge to Judge Rice’s order, with arguments set for 9:30 tomorrow morning.
Joseph Zumdome of Ft Madison and Julalia Pauly of Washington obtained a marriage license here yesterday afternoon.
Mrs Hugh S Davies and Mrs Etta Buxbaum were ordained elders at Crawfordsville Presbyterian Church making them the first women to serve as elders in the congregation. Rev S I Wenger conducted the ceremony as the church adopted a rotary term plan. Elder Charles H Davis of Haskins Church attended with session members. Miss Marda Davies played the piano.
Iowa counties and school districts have received 4.2057 million dollars from the state sinking fund since fall, with Louisa, Lyon, Linn, Clinton, Buchanan and Wapello counties among the top recipients. The funds free public deposits by guaranteeing payment when banks close, deriving revenue from interest, dividends, and state foothold receipts. Offsets for county debts such as auto fees reduced payments, while Washington County alone shows 68,426.96 dollars.
Three thousand farmers from the midwest and south filled Constitutional Hall to approve the new deal farm program. The U S Senate rejected Huey Long's bid to investigate Postmaster General James A Farley by a 62 to 20 vote after hours of debate. Long charged Farley with fraud, but the Post Office Committee found he lacked sufficient evidence and recommended against an inquiry despite affidavits he produced linking Farley to New York contract guards.

Case will oversee extensive improvements to ready the space for Deere, located near the square opposite the Methodist church, currently housing Tucker & Anderson used car market before moving. The Deere plant in Washington is located at the Sidney Moore building on South Marion Avenue.
