Senate investigative committee plans open hearing in Illinois to trace campaign expenditures by Ruth Hanna McCormick with Nye as chairman. Reports allege large self funded spending and Chicago sources, amid possible contest threats if she wins the November election.
At the Washington county school districts convention held at the court house Mrs Winnie Palmer was reelected to another three year term as county superintendent of schools. The session elected four board members, filled vacancies and recommended a $200 salary increase for the superintendent.
Keokuk Iowa May 13 The P E O convention opened with a banquet, hosting state officers, 14 past presidents and seven honor guests. Presentation of new chapters and granting of charters were scheduled for the annual Iowa state chapter meeting. A Berlin Silesia town council imposes a cat tax to fund singing birds and curb pet felines.
Oslo reports the death of Fridtjot Nansen, famed Norwegian explorer, at noon today aged 68. A veteran of polar expeditions, he remained active in Arctic exploration plans including a proposed north pole aerial expedition, which was delayed by a Zeppelin project.

Federal agents hold a carload of liquor worth nearly 100000. The shipment was billed as lumber and sent to Capone’s Florida organization, discovered in the Illinois Central yards after days of watch. The box car contained 1500 sacks of bourbon with lumber as a blind.
A class of nine women will enter the Washington County Hospital nursing training course in June. They will work part time at Washington Junior College starting September, the first hospital program tied to the junior college. Since January, the county hospital has cared for more than 300 patients and currently houses seven babies, three girls and four boys.
Clint Robertson aged near 70, longtime Dutch Creek resident, died at his Dublin area home around noon after a prolonged illness. Born June 26 1854, he was the son of John and Eliza Robertson. Funeral services are planned for New Haven Thursday at 10 a.m. Local updates note visitors and friends from Keota and Sigourney attending district events and Eastern Star activities.

Judge Frank Boenng of Montezus ama heard arguments for and against a new trial in the case of W G Eld Fidge against the Rock Island railway, a personal damages suit, where the jury ruled for the railway. John Dodd, a county truck driver, was injured while helping load cattle and was jammed against a stock car. He sustained several broken ribs and other injuries and is resting comfortably at the county hospital this afternoon. Walter Little announces plans to broadcast soon from KTND Muscatine and WIS Chicago.
