Crowds greet President Roosevelt in San Francisco as he arrives by train at Third and Whence streets. Officials, military members, and foreign consuls attend a parade ending at the YMCA where bonds and mortgages totaling $115,280 are burned in a ceremonial gesture followed by a banquet at the Palace Hotel.
Two men posing as waiters share identical appearances and reveal they are brothers. Henry known as Lohnan admits one name. Charles claims origin from Wlasmar Germany. Henry realizes Wlasmar was his former home and, after questions, embraces Charlie confirming they are brothers after half a century apart.
The Illinois Dental Society convention opens with free dental repair and extraction for patients over a three day period. Elliott clinics demonstrate preservation methods using sixteen chairs at Armory Hall. About one hundred dentists from Chicago and other cities attend with talks on dental topics.
In Jestville two assailants attacked saloon keeper Victor Vandeveir. He shot and killed one and wounded another. the survivor fled, later dying. Authorities named the slain as William Fergu from Danville and Salvin Daniels from Cage, with the victim left bleeding and the assailants overpowered after a gunfight near the saloon.

A Wisconsin circuit court granted a May decree of divorce to Mrs Anna Yonkers from Charles Yonkers on desertion. The case centered on a pretty young wife who eloped with Yonkers years ago. Yonkers mother, a wealthy widow, sought to disinherit him unless the marriage was annulled.
Lawrenceburg Indiana May 12 Sheriff John Axby served a attachment writ for 500 and 50.50 after a chase with a railroad train and a drawn revolver. Lincoln Webb contractor with Big Pour Railroad company had tools valued at 10 000 on a moving train. Webb halted the train by locking a switch and the sheriff fled before the motioned crew. Grand Rapids May 12 Hack and 200 workers struck for higher pay and shorter hours. William A Goodb organizer of the International Workers union said Detroit and Michigan locals may join a larger strike if needed. Chicago May 18 scores in national games include Philadelphia 8 Pittsburgh 5 and Boston 7 St Louis 6.
Sheriff Franklin returns from Portageville with six more prisoners charged with mob killings of Constable Mooneryban and Rev. Malone bringing total to twelve jailed. Prisoners include Ward Taylor Welch Enzer Nichols and Keith. Trial set for Thursday. Separately New York firm Morgan & Co offers Chicago Burlington and Quincy bonds with option to extend to 1905 and 4 percent interest.

The order targets the Business Men's association and related parties, outlining eight prohibitions to curb anti union actions and new suits.

Richard Henry Stoddard, the poet and last member of his family, died at his home in New York City after a week bedridden with rheumatism of the heart. Born July 2, 1805, he began as an iron moulder and last worked on the staff of the New York Sun and Express. He named Pedro and Clarence Stedman as executors and pledged his library of old books and manuscripts to the Authors' Club.
Deputy Tobias discovers two chained men near Mollet lake two miles from Patterson's mill. Both men about 50 years old are believed insane and kept shackled by a log chain in a shanty, fed through a trough and allowed to approach a stove. Neighbors say they have been chained for years and are generally docile. United States Marshal Hates will inform Governor Bliss.
Michael Toohey of Rockford learns his brother John T. Toohey, an Australian millionaire, died at the Auditorium hotel in Chicago. Michael travels to the city as the widow and three daughters depart for Australia with the body. John left Ireland for Australia about fifty years ago after leaving their father’s home. A long search ends with the Chicago death report.
A Chicago inquest into the murder of 6 year old Paul Poaskowski unfolds with his mother on the stand recounting a visit to Mrs Wiltrax a fortune teller whose cards allegedly directed a woods search. Coroner Tracey questions Wiltrax as the crowd grows restless over the accusation.
