Ex city marshal Charles Stevens of Eldon confessed that he instigated the Bradley’s bank robbery on Jan. 31. Cracksmen blew the vault and took 6200 dollars. Dick Dodd of Ottumwa and three Chicago men did the work. Dodd kept the men two days at his Ottumwa home and split 600 dollars with him. Stevens and Dodd are jailed in Ottumwa. other suspects sought in Chicago. Ms Leib, a real estate dealer of Akron, died by poison after embezzlement allegations. she was active in church groups and veterans’ auxiliaries.
Win Wilson Jr. was yesterday elected for the seventh time as Grand Recorder of the A O U W of this state at their Keokuk meeting. Elected 1901 he has faithfully served the order and is deemed worthy of the highest honors. He was also chosen Supreme Representative of the A O U W for the state to the Supreme Lodge in Milwaukee on June 8.
County Attorney S W Brookhart travels to Des Moines to prosecute Albert Melkinstry again in the famed harness case that went to the Supreme Court and saw the lower court’s decision affirmed. A rehearing has been granted and the outcome draws keen local attention.
C R Trafton and A M Turner plan to start a bakery behind Baird and Patton after renovating the former Tom Neiswanger shop. They expect to open next week with bakery supplies on the market.
A traveling widower, said to seek a “better half,” visited a respected widow in the city and, after declaring he was tired of living alone, was abruptly dismissed with a sharp refusal. The episode appears in a column amid notices from the Bible Society and a health cure advertisement.
A factory sale offers seven pianos and organs at low prices with New Seale Kimball highlighted. One piano sold this morning to a local resident, and the inventory is claimed to sell out before the 20th. Uprights start at 168 with various payment terms, plus organs and showroom details.
