Council Defers Setting Contract for Sewage Plant
Bids on the county sewage treatment plant ranged from 53 800 to 78 600 and the contract was not awarded due to funds. Planning had estimated about 40 000 but bids exceeded that. Officials expect to reissue bids later with possible plan changes to save money. Six to seven bids were received overall for the new plant. County supervisors awarded a contract to Leo Plumb for a sewage plant at the county home for 6 200. A C Dickey won the contract to build twenty bridges and culverts for 17 400 versus an estimate of 20 090. Central Culvert Co won a pipe contract for culverts with prices from 78 cents to 3 7% per foot depending on grade.

County cancels graveling and grading projects
County supervisors voted to cancel the highway graveling contract from Bush corner north of town to the Johnson county line. The action follows policy to reduce primary road work due to insufficient funds, with an estimated cost of 10 120.02 dollars, of which 8 440.12 would have gone to TC Kyle for hauling and the remainder to W G Block & Co for material. They also rescinded an earlier spring cancellation of the N C Nelson grading on the road west of West Chester. Completing the grading this year was deemed cheaper than leaving it unfinished, with about one and a half miles of highway to grade and an estimated remaining cost around 2 500 dollars.
