County awards contracts for gravel rock and bridge work
The Washington county board of supervisors awarded contracts for county projects. Hayes Quarry will supply rock for roads in districts 1 and 2. Kaiser Construction will supply stone for districts 3 and 4. Hanson Construction won the contract to build a 50 foot steel span bridge at Noble on wooden pilings.

Little Six Band Festival set for Washington Thursday
On May 11 Washington hosts the annual Little Six and Festival with Muscatine Fairfield Mt Pleasant and Washington schools. Forenoon features high school auditorium performances with Carleton L Stewart of Mason City giving critique and rehearsal guidance. A 71 piece select band from all four schools rehearses in the afternoon under Stewart and a massed parade forms at 3 15 pm ending with a Central Park concert. A final concert at 8 o clock in the high school auditorium caps the day led by Carleton Tr Stewart, noted Mason City High School director. Proceeds from the evening concert go to the Washington music department.
