Chicago on May 8 reports the strike deepening as employers ready 1000 non union wagons guarded by deputies and officers to deliver goods. Police are instructed to use force if peaceful measures fail to quell rioters, signaling a potential citywide upheaval.
Japanese forces in Manchuria push forward from right to left under cavalry screen and bandits as Russian detachments on the flanks retreat. Oyama reportedly fields 348 battalions 490000 troops while a possible meeting with Nebogatov's division is anticipated by May 9 amid torpedo craft near Hokkaido and a burning sailing vessel.
Indictments returned against Alex L. Rockhold cashier of the late Lineville bank for fraudulent banking and embezzlement in receiving deposits and converting funds to his own use. Total involved over $25,000. Indictment filed in Corydon Iowa with May 8 dateline.
In Dayton Ohio a rear end collision between a Dayton Springfield and Urbana traction car and a city line car on Front Street left three passengers seriously injured. Michael Wiles suffered a left leg fracture Litzmartin sustained hip injuries and internal injuries. Joseph Bison received head injuries and cuts. The injured were taken to a Dayton hospital for treatment.
Early today a force battle involving about 25 men led to stabbing and the probable murder of two white union men by non union black teamsters. The clash occurred near Tyner's Store at 5526 Lake Avenue as taunts and derision aimed at the colored workers escalated into violence.
Special to The Evening Journal reports bank robber and detective killer Wm Rudolph was executed in Union Missouri. His partner Collins was hanged a year earlier.

Salvation Army leader Eva Booth met with Nan Patterson at the Tombs prison and spoke with Patterson’s attorney Abraham Levy to ensure the girl spoke only what she should. Booth expressed belief in Patterson’s innocence and said she would not urge any admission.
William Pardonner 12, son of American Beet Sugar president, was struck and killed by an automobile owned by Rank Slocum and driven by Andrew Del Gromet near Dyker Heights park Brooklyn. Del Gromet is under arrest.
A Lexington telegraph reports the jury in the Hargis case is hopelessly hung with no prospect of a verdict after 11 o'clock. Judge Parker urged renewed deliberations as the jurors warned to stay locked in for three weeks without a decision.
Henry Clay Frick, longtime leader linked to Andrew Carnegie, chaired the committee on Equitable Life. He played a key role during the Homestead strike and was wounded by anarchist Alexander Bergman. Frick, a West Overton native, is fifty six and valued at millions.
