May warmth reaches 97 degrees set a new May heat record in Washington while forecasts signal continued drought. Prices on grains bloom as corn wheat oats rise on Chicago board amid supply concerns and rainless conditions impact crops and gardens across the region.
Des Moines reports record May heat with 100 in Sioux City and highs near mid nineties elsewhere. Sparse rainfall worsens drought as grain markets fear continued drought, with little prospects for rain and ongoing dust conditions across Iowa and surrounding regions.
At a U S Chamber of Commerce gathering in San Francisco Roosevelt sent a note urging businessmen to quit crying wolf and to take up private enterprise. He warned that the people will not endure constant complaint and noted Congress was nearing completion in 1934.

About 300 pickets gathered at the T. M. Sinclair packing plant entrance following a strike call by the meat cutters and butchers union. Police escorted 11 trucks out of town as strikers blocked a company driver’s load. 200 workers entered the plant despite the protest.

A meeting of the Washington county farm debt conciliation board is set for this Wednesday at 1 30 P M in the courthouse. Chairman Wil Griffin of Riverside will lead the session where the board will hear pleas from interested parties.
Bethlehem commandery Knights Templar will observe Ascension Day on Thursday May 10 at the Masonic temple. A free 6 30 dinner will precede a convocation in full form and Dr F C Witsigman Methodist pastor will give an address.
A bill introduced by Rep Edward Feicher Iowa Democrat seeks a minimum hog price of 6.5 cents a pound. Bieber criticizes administration policy and calls for action to aid hog producers as current prices lag far below production costs. He says hog producers are being gouged and consumer prices remain high.
Deputy Sheriff Harold M Putnam left for Denver to take custody of Raymond Sinn once in Washington county custody. Sinn, former examiner of Ainsworth Haskins and Cotter banks, faces about 6000 dollars in embezzlement charges. Denver police telegram notified County Attorney George I Morrison. Sinn admitted identity and waived extradition. He and his family had fled last October.

Mrs. John Davidson learns of the death of her brother Emmett Hays at his son Earl Hays home in Onine Nebraska. Hays left the town fifty years ago and was married to Amanda Campbell. They had seven children, six sons and one daughter. He was brother to John and Walter Hays of Was.
Tomorrow is the final day to use Safety Lane offering free car inspections to improve highway safety.
