Damage suit settled in Oskaloosa after four years
A $10,000 damage suit filed in 1940 was settled for $400. Led by the Melvin De Ruther estate of Knoxville South against Kenneth Jensen of Waverly, the auto crash near Oskaloosa on December 28 1939 killed three and injured several. Jensen faced fines, while co defendant Robert Momyer of Knoxville was acquitted of manslaughter in district court.

Soldier of World War I Dies in Des Moines Hospital
Owen C. Woods of Washington died after influenza and pneumonia at the Veterans' Hospital in Des Moines where he had been for about a week. Born April 27, 1895 in Washington he served in France during World War I. He is survived by parents P. C. Woods and Mrs. Woods, three brothers and three sisters. The American Legion Leon Beatty post will provide color guard and firing squad for military honors at Elm Grove Cemetery. Funeral Monday at 2:30 at L. A. Jones funeral home with Rev. Fred E. Miller of the Methodist church officiating.

Body of woman found packed in salt in trunk from Chicago
The body of a woman in her mid thirties was found packed in salt and crammed into a small trunk sent by express from Chicago. Authorities say the trunk was mailed April 30 by a man calling himself John Lopez, addressed to himself, and arrived last night at the Railway Express office in Los Angeles.
