Illinois Students Mix With Police In Bonfire Scuffles

Illinois University students celebrated a Chicago trip with two large bonfires on Main Street in Urbana. Mayor orders were ignored as the fire department fought the flames and drenched the crowd, then dispersed. Run Down by a Train in Joliet Fatality

Joliet Illinois May 5 Clinton C Rush superintendent of the street railroad company and general manager of Joliet Quincy and Bay City lines was killed by a south bound Chicago and Alton train near Lemont. He died after being hit while trying to cross the tracks to reach a station. Rush of Champaign was en route returning from inspecting a trolley route.

Griswold and Rasmussen Tie in Lyons on May Day

In Lyons Iowa on May 4 George A Griswold aged 74 of Almont and Viola Rasmussen of Clinton were married by Justice Alva McLaughlin. Griswold has lived in the area sixty years. In Madison Wisconsin a jury awarded Fred V Baxter 11600 for injuries from the June roundhouse explosion. In Kansas Wichita suburb Cullison paid off all debts and burned cancelled bonds funded by taxpayer cash.

Mabel Burke in Chicago 1890s seeks room with pianist friend

Mabel Burke arrived in Chicago in 1892 at age eighteen and worked as a stenographer at various places, including for Mark Hanna during the national campaign. After health troubles and multiple moves she stayed with Mrs. Doane and later Mrs. George Doane. She requested not to be buried in Coloma and preferred a piano room at a Wabash avenue lodging with Wile and pianist notes, but the plan ended with an unregistered stay on the second floor.
