Joseph D. Shettler, a respected longtime settler in the area, was killed by lightning during a thunderstorm. Funeral planned for today at 10 o clock. In a separate case Neiswanger faced trial for violating the Sunday closing law. he was fined five dollars on each charge and appealed, aiming to challenge the law in district court.
John Simpson of Cedar township has been deemed insane by the insane commission after recent threats toward his father in law and another. He was moved to Mt Pleasant hospital with Sheriff Teeter, the note saying his delusion centers on meddling relatives. Local items report community entertainments and visits, with brief notices of accidents and deaths, including Mrs. Eliza Wilson’s funeral and regional movements.
Judge A R Dewey came home from Sigourney after presiding over the Helm murder trial. The jury returned a verdict of murder in the second degree but no sentence was imposed yet. He plans to stay home the rest of the week to rest. The Fair has moved to new quarters one door east of its former Temple Building stand.

At 1 o'clock this morning in a rain swept city street a man on his way to a Main street restaurant spied a pale woman figure approaching with outstretched arms. The figure proved to be Minnie O. Hodgeboom, a college student and nurse, who had collapsed in the street and was taken to the police station and then home.
