A column notes Iowa event coverage with Oskaloosa reference. Mrs. Harlan P. Meloy of Waverly, injured in a December head on collision near here, is discharged from Ma waska hospital after braces and crutches. Three killed and five critically injured in the crash.
Mrs Peter Petersen, 73, died in a hospital from second and third degree burns suffered while extinguishing a grass fire at her home in Council Bluffs two weeks earlier. Coroner L H Tyler ordered an inquest. Dr M A Tinley said an ambulance delay of an hour and a half was not necessarily linked to the death.
Storm Lake reports the district court recessed the larceny trial of Mrs. Dorothy Luepke so a juror could be at his critically ill son’s bedside. C. D. Waterman was notified his son was near death at Woodward.
District Judge J R Leary directed a verdict for the Keokuk Frisina Theater Corp in a $5 000 damage suit filed by George M Bauswell of Keokuk. Bauswell alleged malicious prosecution after his indictment by the Lee County grand jury on charges of attempting to defraud the theater in a bank night draw.
In Des Moines a man attempted to telephone British Prime Minister Chamberlain seeking peace. His wife returned home early and canceled the call after an argument over whether it was appropriate. Both had been drinking.
J K Wilder 46 of Wilson Kansas pleaded guilty before District Judge H Taylor to illegal transportation of liquor after a roadside arrest with a coupe load of whisky and alcohol. He was fined 500 with costs, and the car and liquor were seized for state disposal with proceeds and assets assigned to local hospitals.
Frank Sutcliffe reported to police that a two man pickpocket team emptied his pocketbook containing $73 in a revolving door at Bankers Trust Co. He had just cashed his paycheck and was leaving when the duo manipulated the door to steal the money.
The Des Moines board of educational organizers sets new standards for superintendent certificates effective July 1 1941 requiring at least three years of successful teaching experience and 16 semester hours of graduate work. By July 1 1945 the experience rises to four years and graduate work to at least 30 semester hours including a master's degree.
William Livesey 76 died yesterday in Mercy hospital Iowa City after a brief illness. Funeral services are set for 2 PM tomorrow at Hohensehah funeral home Iowa City with Rev Richard Mekyvoy officiating. Burial in Oakland cemetery. Survived by wife daughter Lillian two sons Harry and George a granddaughter Dorothy seven other grandchildren a brother Walter Livesey of Wellman and sister Mrs Iva Weimer of Monterey Park California.
Glen Conrad has returned home after spending the winter in Tampa, Kia. The trip marked a warmer retreat and a seasonal visit away from local routines.
Street Commissioner Elaine Holmes announces a citywide tin can drive starting Monday in the northern section and then moving to other areas. Cans must be placed in containers at the curb or alley and will not be collected if loose. use suitable containers.
Milk dealers in Chicago rationed supplies as a wagon drivers and plant workers strike cut deliveries to about ten percent of normal 1,260,000 quarts daily. Paul Potter, executive secretary of the Associated Milk Dealers, said enough milk remained for all who called at dairy plants.
Supreme Court Justice Stanley Reed denied a stay of execution for Walker Rhodes of Iowa City, spelling possible further action by attorney Joe Tye who will seek review of Rhodes conviction on claims of coerced confession, pretrial arrest without warrant, lack of grand jury indictment, and juror bias.
Mrs George Slavick of Chicago arrived yesterday for a visit at the home of her grandmother Mrs A Anderson and her father Mr Anderson.
A jury awarded Leora Nelson of Iowa City $1 081 in a collision case against William German of Washington. Damages sought were $2,500. trial began last week after the Dec 13 1939 east of Ainsworth accident.

Announcement sets a Friday 7 40 pm service at St James Catholic Church led by Chicago priest Father Philip P Philbin to inaugurate the Novena to Our Sorrowful Mother. The devotion began in Chicago and has spread to many regions with hundreds of thousands attending weekly.
A. Bolander of Des Moines leads a Salvation Army campaign in Washington County detailing Iowa year results. The group held 87,397 religious meetings with 411,306 attendees, aided 25,191 families and 3,671 Christmas baskets totaling 31,915.66 dollars, found work for 610 people, and supported hospital care for 108 girls at Booth Memorial, plus youth programs and prisoner reintegration efforts.

Barrett urges attendance with doctors dentists school officials and board of health members as the film aids war on syphilis. Berlin reports German planes hit two British air craft carriers off Norway's north coast and claim a destroyer sunk. In London Chamberlain tells the House of Commons allies abandoned their base at Andalsnes and massed forces in the eastern Mediterranean as Italy edges toward action. He warns of a long, bitter struggle in Norway and promises a full briefing with Churchill next week.
Funeral services for William L. Fisher who died suddenly of a heart attack will be held Friday at two o clock at the L A Jones funeral home with Dr F W Eastwood of the Presbyterian church in charge. He was born March 2 1866 in Cincinnati Iowa and lived in Washington since 1915. Surviving are his wife three sons a sister and six grandchildren.
The Washington county health department will show a preview of Dow for Khilieh on request. The department thanks Mr Pratt for cooperation in arranging the event for those interested in the public health program.
Mr and Mrs Ora Gingerich and their baby daughter have moved to Washington and are staying at 412 East 2nd Street. They came from Wellman where they sold their home and plan to build anew here. He works for Heliose Lumber Company overseeing construction and outside building. The couple, Methodists, already made many acquaintances.
