Sioux City report says severe weather at Armistice Day destroyed about 80 percent of winter wheat in Iowa between Missouri Valley and Sergeant Bluff. About 100000 acres were planted last fall along the Missouri River bottoms and many fields may be a total loss. Seed prices rise as farmers plan replanting.
A Sunday night blaze at the Superior Manufacturing Co. plant in Albert City caused extensive damage. The fire, of undetermined origin, was found shortly after 9 p m and drew equipment from Marathon Newell and Latrens. The firm produces grease guns and pails.
Five Waterloo youths were injured when Francis Price 18 lost control on Highway 57 seven miles west of Grundy Center and the car overturned several times. Price suffered a broken back and other injuries, described as serious, with officers noting he apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
In Cedar Rapids two union mass meetings drew sympathy delegations from Austin Minnesota and Ottumwa as Wilson and Co packing plant workers continue a six day strike for a closed shop and higher wages. Local CIO officials said they were promised financial support by the visiting union members.
The body of Dick Eckron, about 60, Osceola property owner who had been missing since last fall, was found at the northeast edge of the city cornfield. Coroner K R Brown says Eckron committed death by own action last fall by slashing his wrists with a razor. He had been in ill health. Dean Hedrick found the body. Eckron's wife survives.
Emil Cernich a local beauty shop operator escaped serious injury when his cab training plane struck a power line and burned at a private field southeast of Ottumwa. He suffered scratches and bruises after the aircraft nosedived from about 25 feet and he exited before impact.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at two o'clock in the Washington Christian church for Mrs. Cleve B. Thompson 53 who died Saturday evening at her Rock Island home. She was born October 2 1887 and was a daughter of Thomas and Laura Putman. She married John Thompson in 1907 and lived in Crawfordsville Muscatine before moving to Rock Island where they have resided 15 years. She was a member of the Christian church and is survived by her husband and a sister Mrs Harry Lauder.

Des Moines report outlines a bill to abolish municipal, superior, and justice of the peace courts and replace them with county courts. County courts would have county wide jurisdiction and handle civil suits under 1000 dollars, indictable offenses, searches, and writs while not changing district court police.
A Washington woman is mourned with her sister Mrs Frank Earl of Washington preceding her. The body will lie in state from noon until two o'clock tomorrow, according to the announcement.
An early morning blaze at Agricultural Engineering Hall on the Iowa State College campus caused extensive damage estimated around 100 000 dollars. The fire began in the northeast corner of the single story building likely from an electrical short circuit during an experiment and smoke overwhelmed several firefighters despite gas masks. Students watched as the flames spread to the front offices and faculty aided in rescuing valuable records.
A marriage license was issued this morning at the courthouse to Richard Hotle and Margaret Ann Flenner, both residents of Washington.

DES MOINES March 31 UP The majority of 6000 to 7000 Iowa union miners planned to stop work tonight if New York Appalachian contract talks fail. A separate incident describes Rowland slipping from an ice cake into freezing water after a truck broke through ice, but he escaped.
Senate leader Alkben Barkley said the British aid bill gives Germany a ready excuse to declare war on the United States. Reports discuss seizing Italian German and Danish ships to ease Atlantic shipping shortages and deter sabotage while officials say the moves are preventive. A Nazi spokesman calls confiscation of ships a potential act of historic importance but will not judge if it is an act of war.
Fifteen Washington county farmers cooperating with the TVA phosphate demonstration program unloaded 25,500 pounds of 63 percent calcium metaphosphate for legume seedings in the 1941 season. Each cooperat or maintains a check area to measure fertilizer value. fourteen cooperators carried over from last year and Herbert L. Campbell of Haskins joined this spring.
R A McKee 59 of Omaha member of Hanson McKee Livestock Commission Co died in a Saturday night accident on Highway 6 about miles west of Anita. He attempted to pass two cars when his vehicle struck an eastbound meat truck driven by Basil Higgins. Higgins was uninjured as the truck toppled, crushing McKee's car.
In Washington, Clarence Phillips and his son William Wayne Phillips both earned their first solo flights after eight hours of instruction. Jack Snodgrass watched as the pair, joined by their instructor, celebrated the milestone and gained enthusiasm for continued flying.
United Press reports the Mediterranean battle weekend produced heavy Italian losses including three heavy cruisers and two destroyers sunk, a battleship damaged, and possible sunk cruiser and destroyer, with Britain suffering minimal losses. Rome claims three cruisers and two destroyers lost and hints of sunk British cruiser. French protest notes Britain over attack on four French merchant ships escorted by a French destroyer off Algeria.
In Emmetsburg 5-year-old Marian Halstead was bruised but unharmed when a truck driven by Joe Atkinson ran over her as she darted into its path. Police report the girl was struck but sustained only minor injuries.
U S inspector Roy Casey inspected the Washington county jail noting it is well kept for its size but not on the federal approval list. He said inspections occur about once a year and federal standards determine eligibility for housing federal prisoners. The sheriff has limited control over certain conditions affecting approval.
H E Rukgaber 76 observed death after illness at Mt Pleasant home. Funeral at Mt Pleasant Methodist church at 2 30 tomorrow. Survived by wife and sons Walter Washington Edith Cora Akron Vera Mallans Chicago Fred Los Angeles Ray Wapello Miles Mt Pleasant. All children were at home yesterday morning except one.
Belgrade reports say Yugoslavia seeks a non aggression agreement with Germany amid Axis tensions. The government aims peaceful crisis resolution while preparing for any eventuality and plans cabinet consideration on Thursday. Croat and Serb faction differences are reportedly narrowing.
