Meat Prices Too High in Large Cities
The American Meat Institute reported independent surveys showing four of five stores in America's largest cities charging black market prices for meats. The average housewife paid $1.20 for meat priced by the OPA, with overcharges found across 1,803 stores in 11 cities. The surveys indicate illegal mark-ups affect all income levels and cuts.

German Polish Jewish refugees clash with Stuttgart police
American military police broke up a fight between about 200 German police and several hundred Polish Jewish displaced persons in Stuttgart. One refugee was killed and two others wounded by gunfire. authorities later said no American soldier was injured. Milk deliveries at Keokuk face threatened April stoppage

First Father Son Hanging In U S History At Iowa Prison
PT MADISON Iowa March 20 UP A father and son Philip Heiney 72 and William 45 were hanged together at the Iowa state penitentiary the first simultaneous hanging of a father and son for the same crime in US records. The men killed Robert Raebel 65 a resort operator at West Okoboji during a Dec 16 1944 robbery. The pair traveled from Quincy Ill to Spirit Lake Iowa for the crime with a rail trip cost 37.26 and loot of 28 net loss 9.56. The execution occurred inside a small stockade before about 100 witnesses with a Catholic priest and guards present. The death march started at 556 AM and the lever was pulled at 601 AM. The body count was confirmed by doctors. The Heineys left a short statement thanking authorities and Father Bongers for spiritual guidance.

River Drawbridge Destroyed by Fire in Rock Island
