Cedar Rapids reports federal labor official Cofer met with packinghouse workers and company leaders to resolve the Wilson strike. He remained onsite from the labor department and stated he is hopeful as talks continue with separate discussions with each side.
Six students from the Vinton Star School for the Blind performed in the State University of Iowa annual play production festival. Under director Irma Vander veer McAfee the blind student moved about the stage as though they could see.
Cedar Rapids officers arrested John Huston 23 at his home on charges of receiving stolen property. Huston is brother of Rob Huston 8 who was arrested in Missouri Monday. Police also returned Bob Huston 24 Billy Barnett 24 and Wetty Stein Hayes 18 to answer charges in connection with thefts from cars locally.
Dean Chester A. Phillips of the University of Iowa commerce college predicts in the Journal of Commerce that automobile production in the latter half of 1941 will fall to a fraction of current rates. He cites higher taxes and defense demands as factors curtailing output.
Des Moines reports surplus cotton ordered to supply 30 000 mattresses for low income rural Iowa families. Iowa orders total 1 00 000 pounds, with about a third made into mattresses under the extension service program supervised by home project workers for recipients.
Everett Rhodes, 41, was released from jail after a coroner's jury ruled the gunshot death of his wife Asta Rhodes, 25, accidental. Rhodes had been held since the shooting Sunday night. Mrs Rhodes held their 11 month old son. the bullet missed the child. The coroner stated he was leaning the gun and it discharged accidentally.
Dr. F B Rose of Grundy Center and his wife were patients in a Waterloo hospital when Mrs Rose gave birth to their first child the same day he underwent an appendectomy. The coincidence highlights a rare schedule clash in a single family medical episode.
J A Penney store in Washington reveals plans to move to a temporary Blair building after April 21 while the current site is enlarged by Carl Jungbluth. The expansion, about 70 percent more space with a redesigned interior, includes a rear second floor balcony and a rebuilt frontage. Des Moines March 26 11 appointments made by Governor Wilson were confirmed by the senate. Included was H A Grantham of Des Moines named state secretary and publicity head.

John Kaufman 83 of Wayland died at 5 50 AM at his home two miles southeast of Wayland after two weeks of flu and complications. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 PM at Sugar Dinnek church with Rev Simon Gingerich. burial in Sugar Creek cemetery. He was a prominent farmer, member of Sugar Creek church, survived by Lena Nebel his wife a daughter Mrs Daniel Conrad four grandchildren and a brother Jacob Kaufman.
