The Office of Price Administration will suspend price controls on hundreds of consumer durable items not including autos to limit impact on budgets. An OPA pricing official said controls will be removed item by item after a published essential-items list is announced, with foods largely exempt unless ceilings are lifted as needed.
Washington reports 30 volunteers including a parachutist, a veteran, a woman, and a self professed alcoholic offered as human guinea pigs for army navy atomic tests. Only goats and animals will ride target ships for the postponed tests. volunteers rejected by tasks force, offers varied from 125 to 354 thousand dollars.
At White Sands New Mexico the army said a V-2 like rocket will blast nearly vertically to a historic 100 miles height next month. Lt Col Harold R Turner described speeds up to 30000 mph and seven minute flight with no explosives. Public test to follow a secret initial firing in mid April.
The Washington County Red Cross drive begins Wednesday March 27 after a brief delay. State champions from across the nation will compete in finals at the event in addition to county and district contests and conservation demonstrations led by WHO and soil conservation groups.

Twenty six other plaintiffs seek a total of about 20000 and await settlements as jurors set damages for the remaining cases.

Secretary Wayne Ropes announced that the first applications for a soldiers ballot have been received. Service members have until April 9 to request ballots, which are forwarded to county auditors. In 1944 about 3,000 armed forces members used the war ballot as certificates for county, state, and congressional candidates were mailed to counties to prepare ballots.
