With 45 nuclear subs overall and 10 ballistic missile boats, Moscow could place subs within range of American coastal population centers within two to three days, potentially matching U.S. Polaris forces. The fleet includes 75 diesel subs with missiles. The United States maintains an ongoing anti-submarine program to counter the threat, costing over $2 billion annually.
