Bomb devastates Belfast newspaper building
In Belfast the principal Protestant newspaper The Newsletter was hit by a timed bomb. Six people died and many more were injured, including two policemen, as crowds gathered after a telephoned misdirected warning. Police evacuated civilians from nearby streets before the blast. The toll brings Ulster violence fatalities to 284 since 1969.
