The Iowa House approved a resolution 93 to 4 requiring State Game Warden I. T. Bode to submit a full list of fish and game department employees with salaries mileage and traveling expenses. The plan was adopted by the lower branch of the assembly.
Federal income tax collections for January 1 through March 18 exceeded the prior year’s by about 35 percent, according to Charles D. Huston Iowa internal revenue collector.
Waterloo residents report Mrs Sophia Farr aged 101 will turn 102 next Memorial Day after tripping over a rug and breaking a hip. She is described as a longtime local figure and is hospitalized for treatment and recovery.
Mrs. Helen Litsey, 33, received a $400 fine plus costs for driving while intoxicated. Half the fine was suspended on payment, and she is forbidden to drive for three months.
Davenport an insurance company holds a $1000 check for Miss Mary R. Rhoades. The endowment policy has matured but she cannot be located. The firm seeks to locate her to deliver the payment.
James Gehrke an 18 year old youth pleaded guilty in superior court to burglary of his father's home where 250 dollars was stolen last month. He also admitted theft of 22 and 5 dollars from Chicago Great Western shop offices where he had been employed as an office boy.
Fort Dodge relatives were informed that Berthel Reaves 17 formerly of Fort Dodge died Feb 21 in a 400 foot fall from Boulder Dam near Las Vegas Nevada. His body was recovered from the Colorado River seven miles below the dam.
A Des Moines witness testified before the legislative committee probing the liquor commission that an unsuccessful bid to induce a trucker to raise a liquor hauling bid for cents was used to boost a kitty. The attempted scheme aimed to divert funds into a pooled reserve.
In Mason City committees from the unemployed council urged heads of 21 unions to meet with striking relief workers to discuss a general walkout over a wage cut from 50 to 85 cents. Meanwhile conferences were underway among the citizens committee relief officials and the strikers.
George Godfrey of Iowa State College told 50 soil erosion leaders in Shenandoah that a gulley farm will be seen as a moral disaster for a farmer. An inspection of the Tarkio week project was discussed.
An 8-year-old boy admitted stealing 7 dollars from Fred Woolman's home during the family's absence. Police turned him over to Mrs. Mary Law, county probation officer.
Adel John PD. Anderson of Perry files a $10,000 suit against I. H. Lenhart of Perry alleging alienation of his wife's affections.
Mrs. Mary Jane Fads, 55, of Keokuk Iowa, was fatally struck on Sunday when she stepped in front of a car driven by Elizabeth O Connor a Black woman of Kewanee Illinois. Witnesses described the incident as a sudden pedestrian accident with fatalities.
Supt. J. H. Peet of Washington public schools is elected superintendent of Cedar Falls schools and will resign in July after ten years in Washington. He succeeds Frank Mahannah who retires at 65. Cedar Falls, a college town, offers advantages and a quicker rise in the school world. The Washington board will allow him to leave early to prepare for the new school year.
A coroner's jury determined the death, in Kewanee, occurred accidentally after a person was thrown into the path of a machine operated by Charles Cone of Neponset.
Des Moines state officials plan to file claims in Kansas City for 42,422.09 against Pennsylvania Consumers Oil and 7,335.23 against Atlantic Pacific and Gulf for alleged non payment of Iowa gasoline taxes.
The Rotary Club heard speakers Miss Dawson and Mrs C Wilson on city beautification and the City Plan. They urged garden clubs, lawns, terraces, and trees as core to a desirable town. They called for a larger Sunset park and urged neighborly responsibility and tree protection.
Sheriff Grover Thilson pursued four bandits after they held up an oil station at Woodbine and kidnapped two men in Shelby County. One victim remained missing while Clifford Gardner was later released unharmed after his Ford was used to pull a stuck car. No injuries were reported.
Maynard Bower a 15 year old junior high pupil remains missing. Police investigated in Moline where a sighting was reported but the youth has not been located. His parents Mr and Mrs Harvey Bower await news.
Soviet pilot B. Farikh will attempt a 3,000 kilometer winter flight from here to VVaigach Island near Novaya Zemlia in the Arctic, aiming for 17 hours. It would be the first such winter attempt of its kind.
W. S. Reister & Sons unveil the Reister Poultry Club offering 25 baby chicks to the first 100 youths aged 16 to 19 who join. The plan includes 2500 Buff Orpingtons to be bought April 20 and cash prizes totaling 50 dollars for events on October 12 including the heaviest chicken and heaviest group of four cockerels.

Oswald Hunt, 74, of Pendleton Oregon, endured one of the coldest spells in recent years as temperatures hovered near the subzero mark. His shelter in the Blue Mountains kept him safe through the prolonged freeze.
