Dr D W Morehouse of Drake University suffered a heart attack and is recovering at home. He is listed as the university’s president and was reported injured Sunday night at his residence 2718 University Avenue.
Des Moines records show Curtis B. Dall, ex husband of Mrs. John Boettiger, left for Chicago after a one day visit. Dall was guest of H. Ward Benson and serves as chairman of the executive committee of the Distillers and Brewers corporation.
Washington reports from January tests of cattle in Iowa show a fairly low percentage with tuberculosis and a fairly high percentage with Bang's disease, according to the department of agriculture on Saturday.
Toledo reports a housing shortage with at least six families unable to find accommodations. General business conditions cited as improving after several years, and new business ventures include a grocery and a junior department store planned to come.
Adolph Martens, 50, Keswick Indiana, farmer, faces trial for the slaying of his wife Estella 43 and his daughter Maxim iabel 14 whose beaten bodies were found last August 4 in the farm shack. Martens surrendered two months later and claimed he killed them by accident in self defense. A jury freed him in a Sigourney trial weeks before for the girl's murder.
Fred W. Sargent president of the Chicago and North Western railway voiced strong opposition to the national recovery act on Friday night. He warned that small U S industries face ruin if they remain under the act’s control.
Vinton county agent of Benton county Geiger his wife and two children were injured on highway 218 fourteen miles south at seven Saturday when Geiger’s car struck the rear of a truck. He was blinded by the snow his left arm was crushed and his wife’s jaw was broken.
Dallas county officers halted a St Patrick's night dance as an old Sunday blue law was revived. A large crowd gathered. ten orchestra players were arrested along with R. R. Robina, operator of the pavilion, and his three sons who were detained.
Franklin county purchases a Thompson automatic machine gun for Sheriff Fred C. Schwieger’s use. The purchase includes one thousand rounds of practice ammunition for officer familiarization with operation.
Spirit Lake businessmen who started a movement Saturday protesting a proposed transient camp at Orleans announced Sunday that more than 1,000 signatures have been gathered for their petition.
Three of six Palo Alto county farmers pleaded guilty to a corn theft charge in Emmetsburg and were sentenced to one year in jail. The men include L. N. Allen.
Governor Martin L. Davey filed criminal libel charges in Newark Ohio against Federal Relief Administrator Harry L. Hopkins after Hopkins accused Davey of corrupt interference with Ohio relief efforts. Davey seeks arrest and trial, challenging Hopkins to appear in Ohio. Hopkins had not replied.
William Shields of the University of Iowa returned home for the weekend, accompanied by Wayne Brown who also spent the weekend at his home.
The Iowa State Executive Council heard arguments from Harold M. Cooper’s lawyers in Des Moines as they consider ouster for the chairman of the liquor control commission. Cooper refused to resign and attended the session while the council reviewed the defense before taking any action.
Beverly Hills writer John Stevens McGroarty, praised as California’s famed humanitarian and popular citizen, replies to a voter's insult about Sierra Madre trees with a blunt rebuke urging the man to take two running jumps and go to hell. The exchange is presented as a victory for Congress.
Frank Murray and John Maguire were paroled to Sheriff Bert Montgomery. The move places them under supervision as part of their release terms.

P. M. Phillips and sons Arnold and Harlan of Illinois City spent Sunday here visiting relatives.
J. J. Minick, Washington builder, plans a new two story addition 62 by 66 feet to the McCleery calendar factory, nearly doubling the building size to add storage for machinery and materials. A freight elevator and new four color presses are being installed to boost efficiency and production.
The outlook covers March 18 to 23 for the upper Mississippi and lower Missouri valleys and the northern central Great Plains. Some precipitation expected late in the week with temperatures mostly near normal.
In Water Show Mount Vernon Iowa Wini fred Witzigman daughter of Rev and Mrs F C Witzigman was part of a group that staged Alice in Wonderland a water comedy at Cornell college on Saturday evening by the Women's Athletic association The adventures of Alice through the waterglass were told in a skit written in rhyme and complemented by fancy diving and formation swimming.
The Wellman event will host Washington high entries Friday and Saturday with four vocal soloists and twelve instrumental soloists from class A. Washington performs tenor baritone Friday morning and soprano contralto Friday afternoon. Instrumental acts include piano violin cello and more. Judges hail from Drake University and Iowa education: Warfel Meller Bird for instrumental and Hayes Schmidt for vocal. Program lists mixed vocal groups Friday morning.
Special mission programs at three churches drew well attended crowds last evening. Next Sunday morning a stewardship day will be observed, with the Presbyterians conducting their every member canvass. Rev. Williams spoke at the Presbyterian church, with Dr. Eastwood presiding and Mrs. Kelly and Mrs. Roberts leading prayers. an offering above 29 dollars was given for the Women's Missionary society. At the United Presbyterian church, Pp. Friesen shared experiences from India and a Hindu testimony, as Rev. Fulton presented India life pictures and sang. The Methodist church featured Dr. Witzieman’s illustrated talk on Raburabad and its students. About 36 DeMolays attended the Methodist service, designated Church Sunday for their order.
Funeral services for Mrs Ralph F Snavely of Wellman will be at 2 pm Tuesday at the Wellman Methodist Church with Rev Thomas Osborn officiating. Interment is in Wellman cemetery. Born April 24 1886 in Williamsburg she taught at North English and Ladora Iowa and lived in Wellman after marriage. She was active in the Methodist church and the W C T U.
Reverend Philippe Briol a Presbyterian minister and teacher and friend of Mark Twain died in Cincinnati at age 82. The writer had met him while preaching in Spencer Massachusetts.

Revival services continue this week after a Sunday opening led by Rev. William O. King who interpreted for last week's German minister. He preached Spiritual Leprosy to a large audience as Campbell's orchestra performed. The schedule shows one service tonight and nightly meetings throughout the week.
A survey cites 24,840,000 autos produced worldwide with the United Kingdom and United States leading. First National Bank notes the figure accounts for about 72 percent of global output.
Funeral services for C. C. Emde 77 were conducted at the late home at 2 PM with Rev. Thomas Osborn of the Methodist church officiating. He died Saturday morning at his Wellman home after years of ill health. Burial is planned at Wassonville cemetery. He was born April 17 1858 in Johnson county and attended the University of Iowa two years. Surviving are his wife Maria Thurman and children Everett Morton Carl Mrs Berthew Gardner and Mrs Buell Hasty. A son Burrell died at age two. He had relatives in Oklahoma and George Iowa and brothers Henry William and Chris, all of Wellman. He was raised Lutheran but belonged to the Wellman Methodist church for many years.
