Delhi man id's driver in hit and run killing Manchester
A 65-year-old Delhi man Harold George Lincoln told police Thursday night he was the auto driver in a fatal hit and run that killed 88-year-old Harlow Coons of Manchester. Lincoln says he veered to miss Coons but gave no reason for not stopping. Police have filed no charges yet. Thousands of Irish attendees marched on Fifth Avenue for St. Patrick's Day, with about 120,000 participants and many wearing armbands for Londonderry civilians killed six weeks earlier.

Nixon calls for moratorium on busing to 1973
President Nixon asked Congress to bar new court orders for school busing until July 1, 1973. The plan would not undo existing orders or bar voluntary plans, and pairs a moratorium with an Equal Educational Opportunities Act focusing on race neutral education opportunities. Nixon proposed 2.5 billion dollars to improve poverty area schools funded by reallocating existing money. Opposition from Sen. George McGovern and NAACP voices branded the proposals as inadequate and urgent action was urged.

The DOJ asks the 5th Circuit to order the all-white Mississippi Highway Patrol to hire blacks on a one for one ratio until past discrimination is corrected. Navy Demolition Team Ends Whale Hazard Near Farallons
A U S Navy demolition team destroyed a 40 foot whale carcass weighing about 15 tons moored near the Farallon Islands off the California coast. Frogmen used dynamite after earlier attempts failed when charges slipped from the carcass.

Stabbing at Temple Subway Leaves Student Dead
In Philadelphia a teenager stabbed Temple University students Dillinger and Snyder in a subway station after a cigarette and dollar request. Dillinger, 19, died at Temple Hospital. An elderly Oskaloosa attorney Edward A. Schmidt 85 died without a will after a stabbing in his office January. Probate in Mahaska County lists an estate of 1.514 million dollars with five heirs including Eva Schmidt Greiner a Keota niece. Major assets are stocks and bonds 748,570 mortgages notes and cash 303,192 real estate 275,700 out of state property 150,000 and insurance 36,000. Authorities have not yet made an arrest in the case.
