An eight member conference committee in the Iowa Legislature reported progress toward a compromise bill as the House and Senate adjourned for the weekend. Senator Robert R. Rigler of New Hampton chaired the panel, which must secure at least six approval votes to report out a measure. The stalemate began after the House rejected the Senate remap and the Senate balked at the House plan. Lt. Gov. William L. Mooty urged lawmakers to stay close by in case a second committee is needed. The day included the House approving a Senate resolution recognizing Top of Iowa as a designation for a choice sirloin steak.
