Des Moines Iowa March 11 The Beatty Bennett tax cut bill moves to conference as senators and House Democrats spar over amendments. The measure would cut the 1930 millage levy by 15 percent, with one amendment exempting fire and police departments and another ensuring school budgets stay above $600.
Washington county emergency relief committee discussed using a 2000 loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for spring work projects. Funds would pay for unemployed workers with orders for necessities rather than cash, including ideas like a rock crusher and timber cutting.
