Liquor bill ruled a legal debt in Iowa case

Oskaloosa March 7 Special F P Gluck & Co sued Star Bottling Co for whiskey bill. A motion argued liquor debt by a saloon keeper was not collectible by law. Judge Ryan ruled the debt legal and payable, over ruling a contrary Ottumwa decision by Judge Eichelberger.

Iowa Sets Age of Consent at Fifteen in House Action

Des Moines reports the age of consent fixed at 15 by both houses. The measure passed the house almost unanimously and awaits the governor's veto or approval, with potential effect on July 4. A second bill aligns city marshal and police chief roles in cities, passing without opposition and to take effect after governor's signature and July 4 publication.

Fire devastates Laporte business district with $50,000 loss

A March 7 blaze in Laporte destroys stores and stock valued at $50,000 aided by high winds.
