Hoegh vows action over any theft in Iowa administration

Gov. Leo A. Hoegh said he would remove anyone up to the governor if there is evidence of stealing in his administration. The Iowa House defeated a resolution for a probe into Highway Commission purchasing practices 56 to 34, with debate noting possible low bid issues.

Community Conference Set for March 17 at Washington YMCA

The Southeast Iowa Conference of Community Leaders plans a March 17 evening event at the Washington YMCA under the theme What Communities Are Doing. Federal Liquor Stamp Turned in by Amvers Post at Richmond

Atty. Gen. Dayton Countryman sent letters to Washington County Atty. Gifford Morrison and Wright County Atty. R. Ralph Austin acknowledging receipt of three federal liquor stamps turned in by tavern owners. Two stamps came from Wright County and one from the Amvets post at Richmond in Washington County.

Drunk Driver Bill Defeated in House

In Des Moines the House Safety and Law Enforcement Committee unanimously defeated the scarlet letter bill requiring convicted drunken drivers to display a yellow sticker with a scarlet cross on windshields. The panel also sent a different measure to raise first offense license suspension from 60 days to six months.

Post Office Refuses To Mail Union Letter

The CIO United Packinghouse Workers say a Sioux City postal official refused to mail an envelope bearing the slogan Iowa scab law state. Richard Bruner, district program coordinator, said envelopes have been used for about a week and one was held for a postal inspector. He says the official believes the envelopes cannot legally be sent and the union may go to court if denied the right to use them.

Senate censures Temperance League lobbyist over tactics

Iowa Senate unanimously endorsed Senator Heide man's critical remarks about Harold Young of the Temperance League. The body debated barring Young from lobbying but no lobbyist registry exists. Eighth Grade Pupils Entertain Rotarians With Puppet Show

Eighth grade pupils performed a puppet show for the Rotary club yesterday directed by W. Carlton Bump. They crafted props and stage pieces themselves and the production drew guest Rev.
