The Fort Dodge Ministerial alliance asked the city council to enact an ordinance banning beer sales in eating places and under Class C permits. Class C permits cover beer sales for off premises consumption.
George Boone a 34 year old farmer living two miles west of here suffered a skull fracture and a badly lacerated body after his clothing was caught in a corn sheller at his home. He was pulled into the machinery causing the injuries.
Judge Frank D. Kelsey overruled the city's motion to dismiss the temporary injunction preventing work on additions to the municipal electric plant. The injunction was obtained recently by the Iowa Electric Co. and two Maquoketa citizens.
The Ottumwa Ministerial Association voted unanimously against a public wedding planned as the climax to the Junior Chamber of Commerce Food Show on March 18. Candidates for the wedding have not been chosen, despite a week of searching.
Des Moines governor Kraschel proposes building a state greenhouse on capitol grounds to grow bulbs and plants for beautification. Estimated cost reach 3 000 to 4 000 dollars and the project could be undertaken as a WPA effort on the vacant lot across Grand Avenue from the north entrance of the Statehouse.
In Dubuque Justice Barrett presided as Earl F. Campbell Sr. age 47 of Joliet Illinois married Ethel M. Westlake 42 of Joliet. Earl F. Campbell Jr. 24 of Joliet wed Margaret A. Hayter 18 of Joliet. The father served as best man at his son's wedding and the son did likewise for his father. The father paid for both marriages and the couples plan a double honeymoon.
Glen Mace Ford dealer installs a three way inter communication system linking his office with the service department and used car lot. The system allows office staff to speak to workers on the lot and receive instant responses, bringing action to the shop and lot.
The free event runs Thursday to Saturday in the old city hall gym. Booths line the room with a platform five feet up for acts at 3, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Featured entertainments include the Dancing Debutantes, the Lee Sisters, and the B. J. Sisters, plus music by Fred Downine.
Ground was broken at Coe college for a new men's dormitory during ceremonies attended by students faculty trustees and friends of the college. Dr H M Gage president of Coe turned the first shovel in the project and spoke about the building as a step forward in campus growth.
Paris reports a government plan to launch a 750 million dollar armament program in the coming year. The funds will form France largest defense budget in history and be administered by a new economist defence committee not answerable to the chamber. Premier Camille Chautemps outlined the defence fund and need for large loans to guard against war threats.
Ephriam K Gabriel 84 retired farmer died at his Columbus City home at 430 this morning after weeks of illness. Funeral at 230 Thursday at Columbus City Methodist Church. Burial in Columbus City cemetery. Survived by widow four sons Chester Cedar Rapids Ralph Columbus Junction Lee and Clyde Muscatine, grandchildren great grandchildren, two brothers William Fredonia and Christopher Seattle.

The firm’s insolvency may involve over one million dollars, triggering investigations by the attorney general and district attorney, with the SEC also examining the collapse.
Federal weather bureau observers report statewide temperatures running slightly above normal with no precipitation in the last twenty four hours. Keokuk and Council Bluffs reached 62 degrees while Charles City was 18 the low. Warmer weather was forecast for tonight and Wednesday.
Alphonse M. Libenguth aged 61 died about 7 30 p m at his Riverside home after a two week illness a blood clot on the brain caused unconsciousness before death Funeral services will be held at St Marys church tomorrow at 9 a m with burial at Mt Olivet cemetery He was born August 1886 son of Morand and Ann Libenguth and lived most of his life in Riverside He was caretaker of St Marys parish and church properties a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters chief ranger and a town council member He is survived by two brothers Joe and Frank Riverside one sister Mrs Mary Kloopfer Iowa City sixteen nieces and nephews and his parents.
South side Washington dealer lists recent sales including the McCroskey residence 714 North Second to Al Logan and several home lots along Clara Barton street to I L Norton. Other properties change hands involve Emma Long, Mrs Long, M D Koehler, Ed Ke, and more with plans to remodel, build, or occupy.
Firemen extinguished a roof blaze at the house occupied by Mrs. Iva Bales at the corner of West Seventh Street and North Avenue. The home, owned by John Dodd, burned in three or four roof spots likely from a chimney spark. Minor damage covered by insurance, no water damage reported.
Street Commissioner Blaine Holmes said 483 street markers prepared by city workers will be installed after weather warms. The varnish will be added before placement to enhance visibility. Markers include signage to Troop F cavalry barns and field, Woodlawn and Elm Grove cemeteries, and approach to town avenues.
An echo meeting of the Methodist council, held in Chicago, is set for Wednesday evening at 7:40 in the Methodist church auditorium. Four speakers from Mt. Pleasant Muscatine Mediapolis and Muscatine will present short talks. All county Methodist churches are invited and the public is welcome.
Bruegge of Washington plans to occupy a property while Mr and Mrs Johnson intend to move to the C C Wilson farm northeast of West Chester. The John Bales residence at 915 West Madison Street has sold to Harold G Ahrens of Washington, with the Ahrens planning to occupy soon.
R. J. Schliekelman, city milk inspector, reported that February saw permits issued to 28 dairymen under a new milk ordinance. Some producers were ordered to stop selling until cows tested for Bangs disease. two who sold milk locally discontinued due to moves or herd sales. A temporary permit went to Wellman cooperative creamery for 40 quarts daily, contingent on compliance. Sixty milk samples underwent lab tests with nine farm visits and ten farm inspections in February. Further checks set for March. Council to meet twice monthly in spring through fall, with next session March 21.
Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Howie will be held Wednesday at 2 p m in Elm Grove cemetery conducted by Rev. W M Nichol Jr pastor United Presbyterian church. She died in Omaha Nebraska with local arrangements through L A Jones. She was widow of Rev W M Howie and taught rural schools in Oregon township Washington county. Her sister was Mrs John Lytle who died in 1926.
Herbert Hoover in a private 40 minute audience with Adolf Hitler delivers a blunt critique of Nazism as incompatible with American democracy. A reliable source says the exchange showed ideological clashes and Hoover questioned the durability of Nazi ideology within Germany.
An unidentified airplane burst into flames and plunged into the ocean three miles off Oceanside. Police and naval officials sought identify the aircraft and its occupants, but no clues were found.
Wendell Knauss aged 45 died about 7 o'clock this morning at Bellevue Hospital Muscatine after several weeks illness from a heart ailment. He was born in Washington grew up there lived in Grinnell Columbus Junction and moved to Columbus Junction twenty years ago. Survived by two daughters Mrs Forrest French and Mrs Corrine Kilpatrick of Columbus Junction four sisters and three brothers plus his mother Mrs A J Knauss. Funeral Friday at 1 30 at Richie Funeral Home Columbus Junction burial Woodlawn Cemetery Washington.
Retired minister Rev Ralph Lackey who lived in Florida has a husband buried in Elm Grove cemetery. He died on April 16, 1904.
