More than 3800 Des Moines area residents plan to attend a Wednesday banquet to discuss the Delaware Swedish tercentenary celebration set for the last week of June in Wilmington. The event highlights Swedish American culture and the Delaware observance.
Ames Professors W L Hunt er and K G Livingston of Ilo Wa State college are commissioned to conduct an educational survey in Chicago Heights Illinois. They will examine local industries and the school industrial arts program and recommend improvements.
DeWitt state senator H L Irwin, president pro tem of the Iowa Senate, announced his candidacy for re-election in the Democratic primary. He and Mrs Irwin had just returned from a trip to Florida and Texas.
An Ames Iowa State student at Nebraska escaped a paddling by proxy after a friend at Iowa State tried to wire the act as a birthday reminder. The Western Union manager at Lincoln Neb wired a rejection citing company policy.
Farnhamville report states H. W. Leacham died at a daughter’s home near Rinard after more than four years of Civil War service with a Illinois regiment under Gen. Ulysses Grant. He moved to Iowa in 1595 and later partnered with his son Charles in local banking for many years.
Two Iowa State College student groups have chosen new leaders. Albert Ehrke of Bath has been named president of the local American Society of Mechanical Engineers chapter. Gerald Barton of Roscoe, a junior agriculture student, is president of the student section of the American Society of Agronomy.
Ottumwa audience of seventy heard Dr. William H. Morgan of Iowa City urge marrying on a shoestring if needed during the weekend conference on boy girl relations in marriage. The event, titled unlike anything ever held here before, was sponsored by the Young Women's Christian Association and directed by Dr. and Mrs. William H. Morgan, noted youth workers.
Levi Wenger aged about 62 died around ten o clock this morning in Mt. Pleasant where he had been taken for care two months ago. He lived most of his life in the Wayland area. Burial will be in North Hill cemetery after services in Wayland. Survived by two daughters Gladys Black of Alhambra California and Mildred Wenger of Palm Beach California, two brothers Daniel of Winfield and Chris of Wayland, and two sisters Mrs Jacob Koebel of Wayland and Mrs Josephine Koebel of Hust Moline Illinois.
Charles W. Jackson's stolen car was found in Peru Indiana and the driver identified as George Robert Richmond of Turner Falls Massachusetts. Sheriff Putnam and County Attorney Stewart prepare a warrant for Richmond's arrest and possible federal charges under the Dyer Act for crossing state lines with the stolen vehicle.
Keota March 7 Mrs. E C Cady about 56 died suddenly at her home last night after church and family visits. She had been in normal health aside from a past illness. Funeral plans by Marsh funeral home were not finished. Survived by husband a son Merle Rinnir mother Ida V Hough twin Ira Hough and a daughter Phyllis Rinnir. brothers Lee and a deceased sister.
Alice Ward of Washington and Lester Cupp of Keota returned home Saturday after a week with Otho Cupp, his brother, in West Plains Missouri, and visiting other friends.
Crawfordsville March 7 Mrs Scott Welch about 61 died suddenly today about noon at her home east of here. A year ago she had a serious operation and had not been strong since but had been well until this morning. Before marriage she was Olive Beauchamp and spent her entire life in the Crawfords ville community. Survived by husband and daughter Mrs Emrys Davis of Crawfordsville. Funeral arrangements to be announced later.
Census bureau figures show 576 farmers in Washington County work part time, making up 23.5 percent of all operators. Most are tenant farmers with outside jobs, while 194 own farms and 302 tenant farmers have additional employment. Non agricultural work involved 82 part time farmers.

Nearly fifty causes noted for trial at the Washington county district court March term opening next Monday. Trials include 24 law and criminal cases for jury, and over twenty equity cases for the court, with many not guaranteed to proceed.

Eleven youths competed in an interpretative Bible reading contest at the Y M C A Happy Hour program. Evelyn Nebergall won first, Martha Anne Mace second, Lois Humble third. Esther Hayes presided and earned a New Testament. About 100 people from Washington churches attended to hear readings.
