Unspecified amount of money from a war relief fund container was taken when burglars broke a door glass at the Zion Evangelical church office in Burlington Saturday night. Pastor Rev. A F Kelling reported the loss remains undetermined.
Tom C. Hansen of Council Bluffs was elected president of the Iowa Association of Rainbow division veterans at a two day meeting that closed Sunday. Other officers named include Ralph Hartung Cedar Rapids Geo White Oskaloosa H Aries Waterloo Max Wiltsey Sioux City Art Montgomery Council Bluffs Homer Gardner Des Moines Claude Stanley Des Moines Chaplain Neal Springer Mason City Tom Orman Ottumwa F Patterson Fontanelle and B Ob Dunn Cedar Rapids as executive committee members.
A gold star for 70 dead was placed on the service flag in Memorial Union at Iowa State College. The institution lists 4 777 alumni and former students in the armed forces, compared with 4 110 in service during the last war.

Monmouth College sophomore Georganne Rudiger of Washington Iowa joins the Monmouth Community Theatre and Crimson Masque in Cradle Song to be staged March 10 and 11. The Sierra play is acclaimed as among the finest in American theatre and features Rudiger as Teresa.
Mrs Sarah Peiffer aged 90 of Brighton died about 11 30 Saturday night after a fall on February 26. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 00 PM at Hoskins Funeral Home with Rev EB Voss of Brighton Methodist Church presiding. Burial will be in Wayland Cemetery. She was born July 24 1853 in Memphis Missouri and lived in Brighton 20 years. Surviving: two children Elva Crawford Missouri Mont and Charles G Meek Brighton. 19 grandchildren 13 great grandchildren 12 great great grandchildren. two sisters in Memphis. Her first husband John Meek preceded her and her second husband John Peiffer died earlier.
A U R July 6 report warns American air crews in southeast China of Japanese plots to hire killers. A gang of 200 is said to be moving from the Yangtse with bounties of 200000 Chinese dollars for captains, 600000 for majors, 700000 for senior officers. Killers allegedly receive daily pay and pose as peasants to infiltrate lines. American pilots remain guarded while denying the threat.
American heavy bomb forces attacked a target in the Berlin district during daylight. Big formations of United States bombers and fighters returned to the Berlin region two days after a prior assault. It was the fifth time in six days four motored bombers based in Britain struck Nazi targets by day.

Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Shrader widow of Harry Shrader were held at 10:30 a.m. at L. A. Jones Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Fr. W. Eastwood with burial at Elm Grove cemetery. She died Saturday in a Council Bluffs convalescent home after a stroke and influenza complications. Born September 22, 1865 in Ohio, she married Henley Charles in 1892 and Harry Shrader in 1927. Surviving are stepson Raymond Charles of Fairfield and sister Mrs. Nettie Palmer of Omaha, plus nieces and nephews.
Last night's rain and morning snow added about two inches of moisture over three days in Washington county. Rain fell 9 to 10 PM and reached .75 inch by 7 AM, then changed to snow before noon. Cold snap followed, with temperatures near 34 to 35 degrees. Des Moines bureau forecasts much colder conditions and a potential midwinter blizzard with strong winds and snow for Tuesday.
