Louis Lazarus a pawnbroker shot one bandit five times killing him and helped capture another after robbers tied him to a chair with wire. He freed himself during the robbery as bandits fled with jewelry. Captures also reported of two Kansas bank robbers and a trio in Oklahoma and Florida with several apprehensions and recovered funds.
In Bevis Hills on March 6 Cal Governor Sunny Jimmy Rolph at his first cabinet meeting misplaced his watch. The article notes state political chatter about the highway commission and a senate session focusing on weather and the private life of Al Capone over major bills including the lame duck and oil embargo.

Kansas City Mo March 6 a jury in criminal court finds Mrs Myrtle Bennett not guilty of murdering her husband John G Bennett in a case that drew local attention and framed the courthouse drama of the day.
President Hoover plans a non salaried commission to study his Muscle Shoals disposal project and to draft a basic arrangement for Congress. The panel would include Alabama and Tennessee representatives, the army corps of engineers, and national farm groups to seek the best possible lease and remove wartime assets from politics.
Mr and Mrs Burrell Voster of Wellman marked their tenth wedding anniversary with a surprised gathering Monday evening. Neighbors and friends shared refreshments and tinware gifts as part of the celebration.
Coroner L A Jones investigated the sudden death of Franklin Jones age 67 at the Jacob Gunden residence in Wellman. He had poor health for some time and death was due to natural causes likely from a stomach ailment. A retired farmer, he resided in Wellman for years and leaves one brother Lewis Jones. Funeral services set for Monday at 2 PM in Wellman Methodist Church.
The Pratt Brothers announce they will open the State Theater this Sunday in response to petitions from hundreds of Washington business and professional men and voters. They cite Joe Brown and Winnie Lightner in Sit Tight as a major attraction and pledge to follow the requests of supporters in future Sunday entertainments.
Iowa City March 6 W H Cobb University of Iowa auditor suffered a nervous breakdown delaying testimony before a legislative committee investigating the school. The committee then called W H Bates secretary of the institution whose testimony will be heard once Cobb recovers.
Mrs Genkinger wrist sprained and Mrs Coppock neck hurt in a crash a mile west of Ainsworth. John Genkinger unharmed while George Genkinger sustained a head bump. The group was en route to Rock Island for Emery Curtis funeral. snowy ice hid road edge causing the rollover.
The white haired doctor known as the cancer cure exponent has clashed with the American Medical association over advertising his remedy on radio. Baker claims Medical Journal articles defame him and has filed a lawsuit that remains pending.
Mason City Iowa March 6 Two prominent men perished in a blaze that gutted the $35 000 home of former mayor T A Potter Potter and William Hayes a former police judge and circus billing man were the victims Both awoke about five in the morning and faced flames Hayes died in bed from likely suffocation while Potter staggered a few feet before collapsing Potter was a leading local businessman active in industrial development and timber and railroad interests Firefighters recovered both bodies after the fire subsided and Mrs Potter was away visiting a daughter
Washingtons junior college team faces a Parsons college ringers quintet from Zeta Theta Gamma on the home floor while the high school Demons meet Fairfield in a Second Class A game. Tonight at 8 15 seats for Washington fans are held and about 35 band members travel with free admission for band members.
West Chester and Kalona basketball teams in the Washington YMC A league start the title playoffs with a first game next Monday at 7 39 PM on the Y floor. The winner will face the Y Leaders next Monday in a bye drawn final. Represented clubs helped with the draw and all twelve squads are invited to the postgame gathering with lunch and trophies for the winner.
Nomination papers for mayor not filed yet for March election. Clyde V. Brown and Sam T. Donahey are circulating petitions, each backed by supporters. Mayor John W. Applegate intends to run for a third term though no papers are filed yet. Nomination deadlines set for March 14, with caucus plans possible for formalizing slates.
Snow fell most of yesterday and last night easing a winter drought. Farmers and gardeners say the moisture will soak in and relieve much of the shortage. The wet snow did not bring a sharp temperature drop and much melted as it fell.
Hayes Crayton sustained bruises including a severe bruise near his left ankle when a Crawfordsville man hit him while he rode his bicycle on West Madison Street. The accident occurred about two blocks east of Crayton home at 725 West Madison. the driver moved Crayton to a doctor for examination.
Mr and Mrs John Bergquist and family express sincere thanks to friends and neighbors for kindnesses at the death and funeral of their son Elmer Bergquist who died suddenly in Chicago and was brought home for burial. They highly value floral tributes and other expressions of sympathy and goodwill.
The White House will announce the resignation of Alexander Legge as chairman of the Farm Board this afternoon, according to United Press. The move comes as the administration adjusts leadership of the federal agency.
