Tornado Rips Roof From Missouri School
A tornado from a snow laden storm front tore the roof off a Quonset school building near Lenath Missouri as children were about to start class. Police said about 60 children were inside. 35 to 40 had left for band practice. The same storm system struck Magnolia Arkansas killing one and injuring six.

City zoning panel backs commercial use for block 2

Truck overturns on county road near Riverside
A dump truck driven by Paul Dawson Butterbaugh of West Chester overturned on a county road three miles southeast of Riverside at 2 p.m. Tuesday after meeting a second truck on a curve. The vehicle sustained about 500 in damage with no injuries or charges filed.

Two autos driven by Glen Claud Beauchamp of Washington and Kenneth Wayne Allender of Ottumwa collided at the North Marion and West Third corner Tuesday. Fire at Iowa Penitentiary damages building. inmates uninjured
A warehouse fire at the Iowa state Penitentiary in Fort Madison caused at least 100000 dollars in damage to a four story structure. Faulty wiring was blamed after the blaze raged about three hours. About 550 inmates were in the building. a few prisoners and a fireman were briefly overcome by smoke. Water damage forced cellhouse by cellhouse feeding in the first floor dining hall.
