Washington man charged in string of break-ins
Joe McKeone, 23, of Washington, was arrested at 2 a m Sunday and charged with breaking and entering. Police and investigators say he admitted 13 break-ins and five attempted break-ins since February 26, totaling $157.25. He appeared at a Sunday preliminary hearing, was bound over to the grand jury on $5000 bond, and remains jailed after failing to post bond. City Police Chief Clarence Lee led the investigation.

Clara Escher TeBockhorst 79 of route two Washington died March 1 1965 after illness. She was born August 18 1885 in Richmond and married Henry TeBockhorst in 1905. Surviving daughters and sons, 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at St James Catholic Church Richmond burial in Richmond Cemetery.

The Iowa Restaurant Association schedules its fifth annual Coffee Day for Friday March 5 to benefit mentally retarded children. About 2000 restaurants statewide will serve coffee free of charge while guests donate to Iowa Association for Retarded Children. Fire destroys cattle and hay barn on Richland farm
A 3 30 a m blaze on the Richard Caughlan farm near Richland destroyed a large cattle and hay barn and a feed shed. A horse, saddles, 1500 bales of hay and other contents were lost. Insurance partially covers the damage. The fire started during a storm and neighboring families alerted firefighters who saved adjacent structures. The Izaak Walton pancake supper and meeting planned for tonight is postponed to March 8.
